Urgent - Filming through the window with my HD camcorder

Hey all,

Sorry to create a new thread BUT im currently out of the country on a city tour.

Tomorrow I am going on a helicopter tour and need to film outside the window -however today I attempted to film outside the hotel window and my camera focusses more on the window than whats outside. The street outside look really blurred.

I have the Canon HF10 and it is currently on Program AE mode / MF.

Please help

Thanks!

Use manual focus and set it to infinity (i.e. focus in the distance: anything from 5 or 6 metres to the horizon should be relatively sharp).

And keep your fingers crossed the window you're next to is fairly clean!

Andrew.

Hey,

I think I've found the solution which is to zoom right close into something and then use the joystick and select focus and play around with the arrow until the picture goes sharp?

Thanx

Re: Urgent - Filming through the window with my HD camcorder

So long as you aim the camcorder at something far away, yes.

You don't need to "play" with the focus though - as Andrew said, just set the focus setting to infinity (push the joystick all the way to the right). Camcorders have a very deep depth of field anyway, so unless you are shooting something immediately outside the helicopter's window (unlikely I would hope!) everything should be in focus.

By the way, remember that if you do feel the need to zoom in, you need to keep the camcorder very steady, otherwise the picture will shake (a lot). Given the "harsh" enviroment ie. vibration in the helicopter, movement etc. I would avoid zooming much at all. And remember not to pan too fast either.

Hi

If you a CMOS camcorder you are like to get some strange rippling effects that might make the footage unwatchable (give you motion sickness) due to the cheaper rolling shutter the use with CMOS camcorders. See here: http://www.ssontech.com/content/skool.mov for the sort of thing you might expect from a helicopter

Regards

Phil
