Best HDV cam for fleshtones sony/canon or panasonic?

Which is the best HDV camcorder which shows the best flesh tones, works well in low light and offers quality at 1080i or greater

I've shortned my list down to

With its BIONZ cmos chip the SR12 has a slight edge on the HC9 but hdv is far easier to edit in my opinion, but avchd has other benefits ie instant playback and being able to delete files etc.Swings and roundabouts.

They are very similar indeed; Some say the HC9 is the HC 7 in black..!!

Im not sure about flesh tones camcorders though... all HI def camcorders do .. in different measure, lighting permitting
Even the older Sony HDV HC1 does.. quite well

My honest opinion is you would be hard pressed to tell any difference in the three you mention.

Is the correct answer
They aren't identical but not so different in the manner of absolute quality, and "flesh tones"
I quoted the example of the 3 year old HC1 which although better endowed in others ways is not better for video quality than its more recent siblings. Slight improvement in low light quality and provision of HDMI are quoted by Sony but the latter models also lose some of the manual controls and Mic in
In short they are all well sorted for quality

Re: Best HDV cam for fleshtones sony/canon or panasonic?

The sony hdr-hc5 is no longer on sale anywhere which is a shame, I think I will get the sony hdr-hc7, as it has a bigger sensor and better quality

Connect it up by component or HDMI and you get your 1080i

The HDV files ( mpeg2 1080, 50i) called " m2t" ( Mpeg2 transport stream) are simply files you can manipulate of a PC whichever way you like
If you want to get then onto DVD disc in one of several ways

You can make DVD data with any burning software..willplay only on PC or PS3 used as a media player
or
SD DVD video either by downconverting in software or in-camera " on the fly" during the capture to PC process ( by firewire)
You would have enabled i-link-DV in the menu
You can however use them to make an AVCHD disc playable on the PS3 ( as a BD player) or certain BD players capable of playing AVCHD disc

Certainly Burn a BD video if you have a BD Burner and media using software to arthor these but this isnt a commmon pursuit although ver feasible as the BD burners arent that plentiful, media is still a tad costly and playback devicec are not quite in everbodys house.. yet ( if at all that will ever happen)
BD supports mpeg2
Some filk simply use high end laptops or PC as HTPC and watch high def off HDD or stream it
There are also media players like Popcornhour :just dependa hapw far you want to go.
There isnt anything wrong with popping the tape into the camcorder and playing off it to TV
One advantage of tape based Hi def is that you can edit it and output back to tape for playback via the camcorder ( All HDv camcorders have DV-in)
