SDHC card problem

Same cards but different speed?

Transferring of 10 video files with image size 1920x1080 from my Q6600 PC back to 8GB Transcend class 6 placed in HF100 camcorder and using original Pixela Image Mixer took hours, about 5-6. After this I started to transfer each next file separately and it stuck on one file and I cancelled this task, reinitialised the card in the camcorder but it did not change anything. Then I inserted another same capacity card and above mentioned file was transferred in a minute.

One more thing - those files I managed to write back to camcorder onto the first card after transferring were 1440x1080 of size, whereas the same file transferred to another card was of full size.

Is this card's fault? Is there a possibility to repair the card? I purchased them on Amazon, but did not keep an invoice or receipt because I thought that they are 100% reliable.
Can anyone help me to figure it out please?

Re: SDHC card problem

Nothing's "100% reliable" but the difference in transfer time, one card compared with another, does sound strange.

This might be a good test of Transcend's "lifetime warranty." Will they put their money where their mouth is?

Andrew.

Re: SDHC card problem

It sounds to me that in the first instance IM3 was transcoding or converting the files, that might explain why the image size is different and the extended time it took to do it.

It also sounds like there were different process involved here. Even if the card is corrupt it wont change the resolution of the footage (IFAIK) so i think the second card was used with a different copying method.

just guess though.

Re: SDHC card problem

Yes, it is always firstly "organizing contents" and "converting movie" and after "writing back" to camcorder. But there are no different copying methods if using Image Mixer - you just follow the instructions of IM and wait.

I left my PC and HF100 to do some work over the last night - to write back 55 full size files which came from one 8GB SDHC, about 5GBs all together and in the morning found it struggling somewhere in the middle and cancelled the task.

Now I realised that whichever 6 class SDHC card I insert into the camcorder the file of 1920x1080 size after the transferring shrinks to 1440x1080. And it doesn't matter single or multiple files I am writing back. Why it is so?

Re: SDHC card problem

Are you wanting the files to be resized? While ive not put any files back on to my HF10 i do use IM3 to join files together and it doesn't resize them or convert them.
One thing to remember is that only class 4 and above SD cards will record full 1920x1080 in the camera, lesser cards will only do 1440x1080. Maybe this has something to do with it. maybe that card is not really class 6. Just an idea.

Rather than hooking the HF100 up have you tried using a card reader? It might be faster. Just another idea.

Re: SDHC card problem

No, I do not want them to be resized. I am using 3 8GB cards which came from different sellers, maybe cards are OK, but why the Image Mixer downsizing files I don't know. I want to watch them on TV and I have no other way to do this only using the camcorder.

Re: SDHC card problem

Ill give mine a try tonight and let you know what happens.

I know for a fact that if you use a class2 card in my HF10 it wont let you record at full res, thats the only connection i can think off right now.

Are you editing the files or just joining them together?

Re: SDHC card problem

No, I do not join them, they are separate clips, but when watching on TV they are shown with no gaps. I do some simple editing yet - cutting out not watchable scenes leaving videos as is for the time being.

Re: SDHC card problem

Here I've come to the point where I realized that I can't find a way to transfer full HD files back to the camcorder.
Did anybody experience the same and/or know the solution?

So far the only solution appears to be to make a Blu-Ray disc of your edited movie first, and then use HD Writer to copy the BD's contents to the SD card.

More details here: The SimplyDV Bulletin Board • View topic - Writing edited movie back to HDC-SD5 SD card

Re: SDHC card problem

I checked the link, but Canon HF100 can read files transferred with Pixela Image Mixer only so, I doubt this works but it's worth consideration.
You know, one can drag and drop or click and paste files to the SDHC card, but the HF100 does not see them there.

I must have been tired when I posted that. Sorry - I forgot you're on an HF100.

You never know though (well, you will eventually if you try it) - it might just work using IM instead of HDW.

Andrew.

P.S. Damn these forums are s l o w this morning!
