Thanks: Gave 2, Got 0 | Cant burn 1080p30 videos to blu ray disc? :(
Is it true that its not possible to burn 1080p30 to a blu ray disc?
I want to make a blu ray video disc with my videos but it seems blu ray discs can only play 1080i60/1080p24 according to wiki atleast and this post in another topic at avforums
================================================== ======
Sony was too stupid to include native 1080/30P in the bluray spec. At least Toshiba got that part right with HD-DVD. That means that you can't render BD natively to 30P, it has to be either 24P or 60i (@ 1080 rez).
================================================== ======
Can i even Burn these 1080p30 videos to blu ray video disc then the player convert it to 1080p24? or its not possible at all and the source of the file must be 1080p24 or 1080i60 before i burn to blu ray? and if it worked will the blu ray player convert the 1080p30 to 1080p24 or 1080i60? anyone tryed this before? i can not try because i do not have blu ray burner atm but i was planning to get one My camcorder is HF100 and it does 1080p30 Btw i do knows that its 1080p30 videos are stored as 1080i60 however i edited all my videos to a true 1080p30 through sony vegas and deleted the masters to save space

Try it, I am quite sure the BD player will show your 30p files nicely !

Try it, I am quite sure the BD player will show your 30p files nicely ! | you can not burn blue ray on a dvd-r disc [only 35m avchd discs]blue ray needs bd-r/+r discs to burn true blue ray discs.

But we are both correct actualy.. It is true that what I am talking about is indeed AVCHD material. But this is Blu-Ray compatible. The threadstarter was also refering to AVCHD video from a camcorder.
The beauty is that there are two ways to make these discs:
1) As a disc in the ACHD standard (Most software makes these)
2) As a disc in the Blu-Ray standard but with AVCHD material.
The last one will play in about any Blu-Ray player even if it do not support the AVCHD standards. It is all about the file structure of the disc.
I made 2 discs. One of each kind with the same footage, and the one in Blu-Ray standard has played in all BD players I have tried.
Check this thread: AVCHD DVD-r on Samsung BD-P1500
We might misunderstand each other Chris, but do you agree on what I am saying here ? |

We might misunderstand each other Chris, but do you agree on what I am saying here ? | Firstly Seph22 blue ray discs can be burnt with 1980/1080p content,daggad regarding avchd discs if you burn one using hdv material which is 25 mbps the discs will drop to 14 or 15 mbps max,a blue ray disc will stay the same 25 mbps.
although avchd discs look as good as bd ones they are more compressed which will only realy show on fast movement and pans,i am not saying they are not bd compatable but avchd discs will not play on as many bd players as blue ray discs. |

The threadstarters HF-100 has a bitrate of approx 17 Mbps and records in AVCHD. When he burns a BD compatible DVD-R the footage is not compressed, it is the original files from the camcorder (The only compression is within the camcorder). And even if a true Blu Ray disc can deliver higher Mbps than a DVD, this AVCHD material will in my experience play smoothly on a BD player in full resolution on the cheap DVD-R media.
By the way...it is called BLU ray..not BLUE Ray...
(I must admit someone made me aware of that only a few days ago.. )

(I must admit someone made me aware of that only a few days ago.. ) | SORRY ABOUT THE E,you will not leave this one so it is pointless,i have made 30 BLU RAY DISCS and a fair number of avchd as i said avchd dvd discs are lower mbps and overall performance than BLU RAY accept it or not
find a link to show othwerwise.
I do agree avchd discs play fine without noticable resolution loss it is only on some fast movement that i notice a difference.

I am sorry if I irritated you Chris, that was not my intetion. I was just enjoying our discussion and could not resist trying to be funny..
But back to topic: Of course Blu Ray discs are superior to DVD's. We wouldnt have to change the format if this was not the fact. And I am looking forward to the day when good burners and cheap media becomes available.
But there is no difference in picture quality betveen AVCHD footage burned into a DVD-R or a Blu-Ray disc AS LONG as the AVCHD video is less then the DVD's max bitrate of 18 Mbps. And the HF100 together with most AVCHD camcorders stay below this...
Have you burned the excact same material on both media and is able to see a difference ?

FWIW the blu refers to the blue laser which reads them unlike DVDs red laser
( Imagine DVD could have been called "RED ray") Even now DVD neither stands for Digital Video Disc or Digital Versatile Disc.. and nobody really cares

Guess that's why they didn't call it "Blu-ray System."
