Software for editing miniDV?

Hi, thanks to the advice on here I recently bought a Canon MD235 miniDV camcorder. The footage looks great and I am very pleased with it so far.
Now I'd like to edit the footage and create DVDs. I have successfully imported the footage with Windows Movie Maker and now have an AVI file but how do I get that on to a DVD? I have seen a couple of programs that seem to do the job but that seems to take forever.
Do the various programs that are available a) Offer better quality than Windows Movie Maker (I changed the quality setting to "Large" or something similar which seemed to be the biggest file - any idea which is best?)
b) Offer straight to DVD burning?
I have a separate DVD burning program so could get away with just an ISO file.
I just need something very simple (no effects or overdubbing or High Def etc) and It must be the best quality available (again, does Windows Movie Maker do this?)
Any advantage to Vegas/Ulead/Pinnacle etc? I can+will try out the demos but some advice at what I need would be appreciated.

Cheers, Liam.

Re: Software for editing miniDV?

You need to export the footage as dv-avi to retain the quality you can do basic editing with wmm then burn to dvd with say DVD flick which is free and will author to standard video dvd yes it can take some time .DVD Flick in that you can either burn or just create an Iso image first which a later time burn to dvd when you are ready
