Sony HDR-SR10E Camcorder - Sound Quality

I have a Sony HDR-SR10E Camcorder and there is continuous background sound interference on all the video recordings I have made. I was wondering if anyone knows if this is normal. Any feedback on this is appreciated.

Maybe noise from the hard drive spinning ?

Re: Sony HDR-SR10E Camcorder - Sound Quality

Thank you for the quick response. Does anyone know if the internal mic should have reasonable sound quality (free from distortions), or would I require an external mic?

Re: Sony HDR-SR10E Camcorder - Sound Quality

Certainly on the Sony TG3, which has no hard drive or motor, the sound quality is fine - absolutely quiet background. If you can do it on your machine, try and record just to the memory card, but not the hard drive - if that's possible, and see if that makes it better. That should prove whether it's the noise from the hard drive spinning being picked up by the mic, that is causing the problem.
If it is, then an external mic will sort it.

Thanks for your comments. I will look into this and hopefully come up with a solution.

Re: Sony HDR-SR10E Camcorder - Sound Quality

I discovered that the apparent sound distortion from the camcorder was due to faulty headphones I used to listen to video recordings. New headphones corrected the problem with the sound.

Sounds like this might be the one time you can blame the tools and actually be correct!
