Thanks: Gave 0, Got 0 | TRF VHS to Camcorder to PC
I think that is teh best way to go with it.
Basically I have some old VHS home films that I want to put on DVD. I have a camcorder Canon MV450i which I can apparently use as a throughput into the PC.
I can connect the Camcorder to the VHS with the R,W,Y lead but am not sure what I should be pressing on the camcorder. When I try to press record on teh camcorder it just shows whatever teh lens does rather than the VHS.
Any ideas
Thanks
Kwack

It may be best to not use text speak on here ( TRF would mean transfer?)
You need to turn your Camcorder to Play mode ( or VCR) rather than Camcorder ( record mode) in order to use it as a pass through device
AS such you should be seeing the VCR output on its LCD screen
Otherwise go from VHS to DVD via a setttop recorder : much simpler

Thanks for the advice. I can hook all teh components up. The VCR can connect to the camcorder via the red, white, yellow lead, following teh instruction in the canon manual. I select Play (vcr) and press Rec Pause (Line in). once I select play on the VCR I press pause and it starts recording. the LCD screen only shows the tape spinning but no pictures?
Any advice

Could it be that the AV terminals are out only, and not In Canon doesnt seem to say the 450 has AV-in ( although it had DV -in) under analogue-in
IN order to be usable as pass through the AV has to be accept an input

I see but the manula does say that this is possible. One thing I ahve checked is that the RWY inputs on the VHS may only be an IN rather than an OUT if you see what I mean.
If that is the case woudl it be better to put this cable into a Scart socket converter and then plug into the back of the VHS, as the scart sockets will definately output?
Cheers

Dont think you have Pass through only reference to input is this

It definitely says
analogue in :no in the "Canon " link in my post(#4) to the specs
I would seek a settop DVD recorder personally

I would expect the red/white/yellow phono sockets on a VCR (especially if on the front of it) to be inputs only.
I would suggest you get a scart to phono adapter that is wired from scart to phono (scart is directional) or has a direction switch and plug it into the Tv output of the VCR - something like This should do the trick. The chances are that if a scart adapter was provided with the cam it is wired from phono to scart and therefore will not work.
