Which Camcorder for less than £200 ?

Hi

My parents have asked me to find them a decent Cam for under £200. I really have no idea what I'm looking at. Its gonna be used at the odd wedding but mostly for holidays so not too bulky. Any idea's or suggestions ?

Thanks guys

Re: Which Camcorder for less than £200 ?

I'm not really that aware of what's available around the £200 mark but I'm thinking that if maximum bang-for-buck quality-wise is what you're after, go for a standard def miniDV (tape) camcorder. Machines which record to harddrive and flash memory aren't going to be all that great at that level.

There must be a couple of Sony and Canon miniDV camcorders for that money. Perhaps take a look on Amaz0n?

Andrew.

Re: Which Camcorder for less than £200 ?

I'm looking at :-

Sony DVD310
&
Canon DC300

My budget is now £250, I haven't been able to find any opinions on these on this forum. Anybody got any suggestions ?

Yep: stay away from camcorders that record to DVD!

My advice is to go with miniDV (not DVD) tape-based camcorders, e.g., Canon MD235.

Though now you've upped your budget a little, the Canon FS100, which records to SD cards, is worth a look, too. Plenty of discussion on the FS100 on these forums if you search for it.

I like the look of the Canon MD235 and it can be had for £171 inc del from dixons. Then I can get myself a dvd-rewriter and i'll have everything I need with change from £200
