DV to DVD transfer

Hi folks,

I have tried to transfer the data from a DV tape taken from a JVC DVL9000 camera and attempted to copy it onto a DVD using my Sony GX350

I used an S video lead from out of the camera into the from S video port on the dvd recorder

Then switched the dvd recorder to L2 and pressed play on camera and record on dvd

I have a dvd that has picture but no sound

Anybody help me at all please?

regards

Pete

Re: DV to DVD transfer

S-Video is a picture only connection. To get audio to the DVD recorder you will also need to connect an audio lead from camcorder to DVD recorder.

Re: DV to DVD transfer

The PC route takes a bit longer and requires a bit of learning, but should offer a better quality DVD at the end as you work in the digital domain at all times - as long as you capture via firewire as DV .AVI
If you have a DVD recorder with a firewire (DV) input then you should get very close to the quality from a PC.

Personally I would stick to the DVD recorder for the moment unless you want to edit the footage - but this can still be done after creating a DVD if required.

Re: DV to DVD transfer

Most camcorders are supplied with a lead that has a multipoint jack plug to connect to the cam. The other end has a red & white phono for audio and a yellow phono for video. Replacements can be bought from the likes of Maplin - but make sure you get the correct one for your cam as they are different.
If in doubt though you could go the PC route easily as firewire is video & audio. Have a look Here for a run through using the free Movie Maker that comes as part of Windows XP & Vista Home Premium.
