what video editing software do you use

i have just got a new pc that came with pinnacle expression.
I am about to purchase a samsung dv cam and wanted to know what software you use and what is the best editing software
for idiots but has the the features for seasoned people.

I use Adobe Premiere 6.0, but this most definitely NOT an easy to learn programme.
For starters I would recommend Pinnacle Studio 8. This is a fully featured, not too expensive, easy to learn programme.

I've got premier 5, and as Mark say it aint easy to learn and a tad expensive

I agree, Pinnacle Studio 8 is your best bet.
Fantastic, easy to use layouts.
It can be a bit buggy though.
I've found version 8.5 update to work best.
Avoid the latest beta update, it is very unstable at the moment

Another program worth considering is Ulead Video Studio 7. It's slightly cheaper than Pinnacle but has more advanced filters and so forth. It's slightly harder to use at first and performance seems slightly slower (the preview screen is quite large) but I opted for it over Pinnacle due to the greater flexibility.

Both programs were reviewed by one of the camcorder mags recently.

They are both astonishingly good, though...

If you're running XP, try downloading MS Movie Maker 2 from their web site. It's free and very intuitive.

Pinnacle Studio is a decent starter program.

Myself I use Sonic Foundry's Vegas 4 (Great software & support from Sonic Foundry, unlike other NLE companies, but they are hopeless at marketing a great product that should be a household name. Infact a different name would be a start , Vegas is not a name to inspire confidence)

You should check out PowerDirector Pro. This is a great program from cyberlink ( the makers of the software DVD player PowerDVD ). I have both Pinnacle Studio 8 and PowerDirector Pro, but find myself using PowerDirector more often. They are both about the same price, but i think PowerDirector has the edge, it has really good and easy to use features and its great for DVD/VCD/SVCD creation , you can create a DVD with chapters and menus and everything in just a few clicks.
