Help needed with imagemixer 3 SE

Hi. Although i dont like the program i thought i would give it a go and try and make a AVCHD disc on a DVD.
Once i have selected everything and am ready to go i put a blank DVD in but IM3 says its the wrong format and wont let me write to it.

Any one know a reason for this?

Re: Help needed with imagemixer 3 SE

Hi Dave, I just tried it and it worked (sorry!).

I used a Verbatim 4x DVD-RW.

I started IM3, selected the Browsing & Authoring app, from the Library selected one file, clicked on the Disc List button, selected New AVCHD list, gave the list a name, clicked on the list in the left hand menu, clicked the Write button....

Re: Help needed with imagemixer 3 SE

I can't remember exactly, but there are only certain type of blank disk it will write to. I think it's ok with +RW and +R but not -RW or -R. Or the other way round! I also remember something about the finished disk only being able to be read by imagemixer itself so it may be good to check the manual before doing one!

Re: Help needed with imagemixer 3 SE

Ok, thanks guys. Ill have a play around again tonight. I can get some different discs from work. It was a DVD -R i was using so maybe thats the wrong type.
One thing that struck me was the formatting option in the write box. Maybe its only re writeable disc's that work.
As it was i did get the disc written using Nero Vision so its not a big deal but it would be nice not to do it all in one app.
I cant believe how limited this program is.

That's interesting I didn't get that...something I forgot to mention is that the DVD-RW I used was not blank. IM3 asked me if I wanted to erase before writing and of course I said yes. May be irrelevant.

Hmm, ill try a RW tonight i think. Just under where you select the drive/disc to burn to are two buttons that let you erase and format the disc (i think thats what they say) but both were greyed out.

Webby.
You were right. I can only use DVD - and not DVD +. Just tried a DVD-R and it worked fine (and it says this in the help file)
Thanks for the heads up.

I ant believe in this day and age something like this makes a difference.

Re: Help needed with imagemixer 3 SE

It's hard to believe Canon couldn't find a better bit of software to bundle in with the camera.

Re: Help needed with imagemixer 3 SE

Sony used to bundle ImageMixer v1 with their Cybershot stills cameras years ago. I was both surprised and disappointed when I got my HF100 to find that v3 has not really improved things much, if at all. I guess the manufacturers must get a pretty good deal out of Pixela.

Re: Help needed with imagemixer 3 SE

And whats with the file extension getting changed? Is this because of Sony's involvement with IM3?
I will only be using this program to piece together my files without recoding them so i can put them on my PCH so the family can watch them beofre i edit them so im not to bothered but it does seem to be a bit of a step backwards.

what i really hate is that i had to uninstall Haali media splitter and that effects my system now.

I had a look on our good friend Wikipedia as well as Doom9. It didn't answer the question. I always assumed it was something to do with AVCHD discs using .m2ts files for H.264/AVC video (maybe Blu-Ray discs do as well?) but perhaps not.

Re: Help needed with imagemixer 3 SE

Looks like Nero Vision 5 is a better alternative to IM3 for making AVCHD discs, writing back to SDHC card etc. and also saves out .mts files rather than .m2ts:

The only problem ive had with Nero is that for some reason it wants to re encode a file or two every now and then when im trying to just join them together. i once had a file that was getting on for 30GB, and i was only trying to join 3 files no bigger than 140MB in total.
I really couldn't figure that one out as it was only certain files but there seemed no reason why it would want to as they were all just copied directly off my HF10 or SD card all in the same way so thats why i went over to IM3.

Re: Help needed with imagemixer 3 SE

I have tried to burn a DVD with the imagemixer 3se software that came with the Canon Vixia HFS10. Each time, I am told that "This disc format is not supported". I have tried two different blank DVDs, both Memorex (DVD+R).
Can anyone help?

You need to read the whole thread ... it seems you can only burn to DVD- disks

Q. Is Imagemixer proprietary for the Canon camera only?

I tried to download digital video from my friends camera (also a canon but last years model), and the software did not even recognized that it was connected to my computer. How would I be able to view and manipulate those videos? Is there a software package that can do it all?

The ONLY way I have been able to burn a DVD using Imagemixer is to first export it, and then use Windows Medial Player to burn the disc.

I cant believe in this day and age that it is proving to be THIS difficult to simply be able to read and recognize a camera (regarless of whos camera I use), and then to be able to download, edit and burn a DVD.
I'd REALLY appreciate help now that I have spent $1200.00 for a new camera.
If this is what Canon does, maybe they're not really worth it.

Re: Help needed with imagemixer 3 SE

Well there are about 4 versions of IM with each camera having it's own version.

You are not tied in to the Canon software. I would imagine that the majority of owners are not using it. Just copy/paste the files from the card to your PC and then burn using better software (ie. Nero etc. etc.)
