Canon HF10 vs HF100

Hi

ive tried searching through the threads to try and find one that compares the two but have had no luck

I like the look of the HF10 but have heard the only difference between that and the HF100 is the lack of inbuilt memory.

The price difference is £120 which would of course pay for a pretty good 16gb memory card, a carry bag and part of a spare battery

Which do you think i should go for?

Re: Canon HF10 vs HF100

The differences are just the colour (HF10 is Black, HF100 is silver) and the HF10's built in (slow) 16GB memory.

I'm sure some people may dissagree with me on this, but I personally can't see any reason to for buying the HF10, for the reasons you mentioned...

Price difference of £120...

16GB SHDC ~£31
Official Canon BP-809 ~£43
£46 left for a bag and/or other accessories.

It's a no brainer really.

Re: Canon HF10 vs HF100

yeah thats what i was thinking, it woudl be nicer if i could get it in black but £120 quid is a lot when youre on a tight budget

Re: Canon HF10 vs HF100

I have the HF100 and IMO the photos of the HF100 don't do it justice. It's not silver, it's much classier than that. Personally I think the black of the HF10 is too glossy (and my wife much prefered the look of the HF100) but at the end of the day it's personal taste and you don't buy a camcorder based on looks (as long as you don't get one that's ugly ie. HV20 ).

I agree with wilc111 I can't see the point of spending extra for the HF10 unless you're the type that might forget to carry a spare card.

Well done hope you find it meets your expectations
Although the threads can be hard work it is worth looking at them as many discuss issues that may become real when you do eventually get the camcorder and it is worth being....prepared for life after the purchase

Excellent choice, As you have pointed out the thread does drift a little, if you search by key words I bet you find the answer your looking for.

Re: Canon HF10 vs HF100

Ive got a HF10 and im happy with it but it isnt really worth the extra over the HF100 IMO.
But, if i was buying again i would still get it because i do like the look of the black finish and having the 16GB built in works for me.
I actually use SD cards most of the time now, mainly because its a hassle having to plug the camera in to the mains to transfer the files to my PC's.
At home its ok but i like it mess around with them at work as well.

For the first time on friday i actually ran out of space on my 4GB card while i was filming so i was lucky to be able to fall back on the built in memory. Yes, if i had another or bigger card that wouldn't have mattered but the fact was i didn't so like i say, it works for me.
I will probably get a 16GB card before i go to Florida next year though so in effect yes, i did waste a lot of money but im still very happy with the HF10.

Re: Canon HF10 vs HF100

how much HD footage did you get out of a 4gb? I know the battery only lasts an hour and a bit so i guess the battery will run out before the gb's do

Re: Canon HF10 vs HF100

4GB is half an hour of footage at top resolution/frame rate.

Re: Canon HF10 vs HF100

http://www.amazon.co.uk/CANON-BP-819...0882197&sr=1-1

Though looking at it id probably go for 2 standard 809's. That will make 3 in total which should be ok for a days shooting

Many thanks for the help

Good idea, at least the colour will match (in theory should charge quicker as well). Do a google shopping search as warehouseexpress might not be the best price, I only went there as I knew they had them in stock.
