Removing color cast from Dive video; help

Hi,

I would like some help with editing of underwater footage.

I have managed to tweak the stills I have in Photshop to correct for loss of red light, but need some guidance on how to do the same with video.

Any help or suggestions on suitable editing packages would be appreciated.

thanks

leaft

Re: Editing Dive video

What camcorder did you use?
What software have you considered ( and how much did you wish to spend?)
What PC/Mac do you have ?
And to which format do you intend to output?
These are a little more impt than the fact of underwater footage which Im sure you took well

Try search here for threads on software for possibilities

Re: Editing Dive video

Senu, thanks for the reply.

please see more info below.

The video footage is actually from a stills camera.

I have access to Sony vega, iMovie 8 and HD, Canopus Procoder,
Mac and Windows XP

Willing to recode, in this instance probably just looking at mpeg4 as the original source is of quite low quality and will probably only end up on the net, facebook etc.

Its the ability of removing of the blue/green tint that I am after. Photoshop does a nice job on stills and I found quite a few web know hows on doing this.

Re: Editing Dive video

The ability to remove tint is certainly in Vegas , Just a matter of finding the right filter
Which version of Vegas?

Do you want to turn the video to Mono or remove a color cast?

Re: Editing Dive video

Vegas V7, I think....

remove the colour cast, If I do this right I should end up with a balanced image with the red light spectrum restored.

More or less . I use Vegas but do this more with Avid Liquid

What kind of colour cast is the video?
It is possible but not entirely assured you will get completely normal color .. but it will improve the video
Ill have a look at home ( im at work now)
but Redsox_Mark is our resident Vegas guru and he may happen along soon
Ive renamed your thread.

Re: Removing color cast from Dive video; help

Many thanks for your patience and assistance.

The video has a green blue cast due to the absorption of red light by the water.

In Vegas, use the colour corrector. You can adjust the colour for low, mid, and high exposure areas.

Re: Removing color cast from Dive video; help

Procoder has a number of colour correction video filters, including variable hue and saturation controls. Not had the chance to try them myself yet (only get to use Procoder on a friend's machine --still saving for my own copy!!), but if it works as well as most Procoder features, it'll probably be pretty good!

Re: Removing color cast from Dive video; help

Well Vegas gave me the results I was after, with the mid tone Red colour correction filter.

I did have to run the clip through Pro Coder first as my Vegas install did not like the mjpg format. A quick re-code to mpeg1 did the trick.
