I'm looking for software for HD resolution

No one seems to know or be interested to know, what will pack (crunch, save) a video clip, at 1280x720 resolution? It is made with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX520 ultra compact camera. I have tried the freewares Avidemux2, Mediaimpression and Virtualdubmod. They can only pack to a resolution of 640x480-720x480. I would bet too, that neither of the commercial credit card required softwares can pack what I need. Do you have any ideas?

rogs: Lumix DCM-FX520 makes *.mov, mediaimpression makes mpeg-1, Virtualdubmod makes DivX and Avidemux2 makes *.avc x264. I have to do it in this order to get 720x480 acv. I have now tried Streamclip, but it worsens the quality very much. It also positions the frames at the top of the screen and places gray boundary at the bottom. Many other H.264 settings increase the size. It also crashed once. However, I discovered, that with Streamclip, I can change the file type from *.mov to *.avi, and then join my 1280x720 videos with Avimuxgui and save them into 1280x720 *.avc with the Avidemux2, or 1280x720*.xvid with the Virtualdubmod. XVid makes the video only a few percent smaller, and quality is only slightly worse. When packed into *.avc, the quality is a little more worse. The quality balances the graininess of the Lumix, and becomes smooth, without compromising the resolution any further. And *.avc is as small as it should, 15 Mb out of 300!

Not sure what video format your camera provides, but maybe the free program Mpeg streamclip from here:

http://www.squared5.com/

might be able to do what you need.

Re: I'm looking for software for HD resolution

If it's any use to you, the specs on the Panasonic site indicate that it's recording 1280x720 M-JPEG at 30fps. M-JPEG (or Motion JPEG) is just a linear sequence of individual JPEG frames with limited inter-frame compression.

So you need something that can convert M-JPEG to AVCHD (or Mpeg2). I'm pretty sure Vegas does this. You could try downloading the trial version to confirm if it works of not.

Hi MrTeemuRuskeep,

I'm notifying you, that it is conventional to post in forums in chronological order so that you can read the 'flow' from top to bottom . It's entirely up to you if you want to follow this though.

Some more info may be useful for you...

1. You don't need a credit card to download Vegas trial, which you can use for 30 days without paying.

2. If you are reasonably technical minded then ffmpeg (the command line tool) should work, as it supports both MJPEG and Mpeg2/4.

EDIT: Note that MrTeemu has deleted his post that was above this one. Man what a nutter!

I appreciate that English isn't your first language, but I have to say, you appear to be stark raving bonkers

Anyways, your original post looks exactly the same as it did yesterday. What did you change about it? You certainly haven't responded to the points I made.

If you want to get help simply state how rather than referring folk to your first post
There is no hard and fast rule in the use of bulletin boards AFAIK as long as the simple stated rules are kept and thread does not get off topic ( which is what mods are there for)
