Photobank memory card backup device - help me find itout please.

I seem to remember someone linking to a device that was a memory card reader that could attach to a USB Hard Drive and back the memory card up to the hard drive at the push of a button - but I can't find it any more.

I have a really crappy caddy that holds a 2.5" hard drive and does the job extremely slowly. I am aware that a number of companies make better 2.5" HDD caddies that work as photobanks - but this device was an external mains powered card reader that would work with any existing USB HDD that you may have lying around - any ideas what it was and where I could get one from?

P.S. - Sorry about the typo in the thread heading - but my hand brushed the enter key when I was trying to tidy it up - and there's no going back when that happens.

There's a Belkin device called "USB anywhere" but its usb1.1 which will be quite slow - but then the data rate from an sd card isn't particularly fast anyway - 4GB will take some minutes to transfer so could be what you're thinking of. Try www.belkin.co.uk and type in usb transfer in the search engine.

Thanks - yes that's the kind of thing.

I wonder if there is a definitive one that anyone would recommend. I've found out that they are called USB OTG devices since I posted last.

The only other thing that comes to mind is that I'd be copying the contents of a TG3 Memory stick - which if memory serves me correctly always starts at the beginning of a number range with a file numbered 0 - so I think the device would need to copy each stick to a new folder to avoid the existing files on the HDD being overwritten each time.

Re: Photobank memory card backup device - help me find itout please.

Never mind - I've ordered a new hard drive photo bank enclosure - After thinking about it - I realised that I'd need to power the 2.5" USB hard drive and since the USB port was in use for copying this wouldn't be possible. - so I went back to the original photo bank idea instead and I'll plonk an old 80gb drive inside it.

Thanks anyway.
