Xacti HD700 still the best bet in the £250 price bracket / ok for a beginner?

You're suggestions please on a circa £250'ish 'camcorder'.
Dad 's just turned 60 and has decided this is what he wants for a pressie - he's just built himself a model railway (in the garden!!!) and has decided he wants to create a website to show it off.....as well as bugging the grand-kids with itSo - ease of use is a must - preferably 'digital' capture as opposed to cassettes. Absolute image quality is not critical - family stuff and website compatible is all he'll need - this is not for broadcast
Ease of use for downloading / editing also a must - I have no doubt all footage will be passed to me for editing as he's just getting into computers (PC) and I made the mistake of saying 'I have a MAC with I-Movie,which should make things easy'.......having never used it though I'm on a learning curve here as well...!:suicide

The Xacti HD700 seems to read well (does it have a tripod mount thread??) and is in budget but anything else I should consider
CheersChris
