Most (if not all) Digital8 camcorders can play back 8mm/Hi8 tapes. Take one of your 8mm tapes to Jessops etc and try before you buy.
As long as your PC has a firewire port and the correct software for capture/editing etc you should have no problems.  Find the best online price for the camcorder, take the detaiols of the retailer to Jessops and they will price match.
