Night View Cameras

Just wondering what sort of cameras enable that green night view ability.

Is this an option on many types of cameras have, or do you need a specific type?

Re: Night View Cameras

Most newer Sony Handycams have a nice night shot on them, they aren't SUPER green, they're a greenish white.

Re: Night View Cameras

Does that include the TG3?

Re: Night View Cameras

Night shooting modes are a gimick. The resulting video looks awful. This might have something to do with the fact that video needs light, preferably in great abundance. Pop on over to www.vimeo.com and do a search for "night mode" and variants. Ought to put you right off.

Re: Night View Cameras

Just hoping to get footage of boy racers in the car park keeping everyone awake at 1am. Doesnt really matter about quality as long as it picks up number plates and sound.

it not a gimick, how else would you shoot in zero light?
and yeah, video needs light, hence night vision which uses infra red LIGHT

Thanks for that. I'd be very interested to hear about consumer camcorders that have an IR record mode that works beyond a few metres. Do you have any further information?

If you are referring to Sony's "nighshot" then I stand by my claim that it's a gimmick. Because it is.

In reply to the OP, the TG3 does not have "nightshot."

Andrew.

Re: Night View Cameras

Shame, it'd be nice to find one with an ability to film in the dark.

The SR11 & SR12 have it, as do the HCR7 and HCR9 as far as I know. Looks like it has a range of 2 or 3 metres so it probably wouldn't be of much use to you for the application you were thinking of.

You can buy large IR lights designed to help. Personally, I'd call the council and the police repeatedly and save myself money and aggro! That's what they're there for! Or something.

We don't get boy racers around these parts. Two weekends ago, however, I did see a domestic in the street (does it still qualify as a domestic when it's in the street?) involving a large kitchen knife being wielded in the face of a woman in the process of attempting to escape by taxi.

Young love. So much passion.
