Thanks: Gave 0, Got 0 | Sanyo Xacti HD10000 + Video Editing + PS3
Hi All,
My dad's bought a Xacti HD1000 and he's very pleased with it. He wants to be able to edit/master the videos on his PC, store them on a network drive then stream them to a PS3. He has Pinnacle Studio 12 Ultimate.
We're trying to settle on a video format that will work on the PS3, can be created by Pinnacle Studio and is as good as the original MPEG4 AVC/H264 12Mbps 59.94fps(?) 1080i files (these are NOT the same as AVCHD!).
According to him, he can't find anyway of outputting the file from Pinnacle in the same format it was imported in, and he's pretty limited for choice when it comes to output formats for HD. He has a dual core PC and apparently he'd need to upgrade to a quad core before he could use AVCHD files which obviously he doesn't want to do. He's tried MPEG2, 1080 30Mbps 29.97fps but this seems to cause problems in playback... the individual frames look nice and sharp but motion is not very smooth at all... in fact it's almost painful to watch. I'm not sure if this is because of the differences in frame rates or whether the Pinnacle MPEG2 encoder isn't very good at predicting motion.
I wanted to know if anyone has any suggestions for him to try? I've not played with Pinnacle or fiddled with any settlings on his camera, but i do have a PS3 to test files on.
Many thanks,
Glyn.

I got the Xacti HD700 and my PC (WinXP, Pentium 4HT 3.0GHz) barely handles the files... I just "edit" (cut, cut, merge) the files on the camera, plug the SD on the PS3 and enjoy... |

As in my other post Sanyo uses non standard MPEG4 codecs
You could try MPEG-Streamclip as it's Quicktime based it's fairly friendly to use with the Sanyo codec and you can render the files to other HD formats or keep them as MPEG4.
You don't mention what you are viewing the files on (TV or PC) with regards to the quality but don't try and convert the frame rate from 60/30fps to 25fps, keep everything as close to the origional as possible, this will cause the motion effects you noted.

Hi, thanks for the replies, and aologies for the delay in responding.
We are trying to play the files back on a PS3, through a FullHD TV over HDMI.

When I tried one (which I sent back) I used the edit on the camera and just put the SDHC in my PS3 to play the clips back.
