VCD conversion to DVD using Vegas 7

Dear All

Back on the forum again for some advice, when i convert my VCD files to DVD using Vegas7 and DVDA4 it takes 5 to 6 hours using Vegas7 for rendering to DVD PAL and again my DVDA takes 5 hours to make it a PAL DVD.So total of 11 hours aproximately, My processor is AMD Sempron 2600 and memmory is 1.5gig, If i change my sysyem to a core2 Duo pentium Laptop will it do any faster than this, or even a core 2 Duo PC will it be any faster, which is more faster a laptop or a desktop , Please shed some light on this

Re: VCD conversion to DVD using Vegas 7

A desktop should be faster than a laptop as they generally have faster CPU's and a faster FSB.
Upgrading the PC should improve rendering/conversion times a fair bit, especially with 2Gb or more of RAM.

BUT.....
why are you converting VCD's to DVD? As a VCD is far higher compression than DVD you will not get any better quality by putting the video onto a DVD. IMO you may as well stick with VCD as the discs are cheaper.

Also you shouldn't need to re-encode the files twice. Only one program should need to do any conversion, which should also result in less quality loss cause by multiple conversions.

Mark.

Re: VCD conversion to DVD using Vegas 7

Thanks for your reply, i am not doing this to get a better picture quality but i am doing this to combine 2 vcd disk in to 1 disk DVD.To make a DVD as senu said b4 i have to rename .dat file to .mpg then render as DVD PAL, after that using my DVDA4 i have to make a PAL DVD, but both these processesd takes around 10 to 11 hours using my current spec PC.So if i upgrade to a higher spec i can get this done faster.

Try using "Nero Vision". Import the 2 VCDs into a "Make DVD" Project then create the DVD. It should take far more less time.

I imagine you are trying to put 2X 1 hr VCD onto a DVD to make a DVD title
As I also suggested then, If you dont want to edit
Just import the dat ( or renamed mpeg files) into Ulead Movie Factory It will rencode the mpeg to mpeg2 but just the once
Even if you want to edit I would still use it as by default it will not renecode the DVD ready mpeg2 files
if you use DVDA templates in Vegas , DVDA should not need to reencode provided you also chose an audio format that DVDA likes
You may try DVDA specifying that it does not reencode but Apar from the Pizel dimensions, mpeg2 differs from mpeg one in the codec, and encoding bitrates so I imagine then It miight be impossible to avoid reencoding from VCD to DVD but you should noot need to do it twice
I will try to do same later today to show it is easily possible
Nero Vision as suggested is ok too provided it does not attempt to reeencode,
Ragarding hardware Mark is correct, but even with a desktop it wont be instantaneous and a more modern spec would serve you better
