Time-lapse camera?

Can someone tell me please if I can use a 'standard' camcorder to record time-lapse, or if there is a specific type I need?

Thanks.

Re: Time-lapse camera?

I'm not sure if it is a common feature, but my (getting very old) Sony TRV-900E can do time lapse. However it records a minimum of 1 second of video at a time rather than a single still image. I've never used this feature so am unsure how well it works.

Mark.

Yes, as far as I'm aware you'll need to find a machine that offers a time-lapse function. I think it is safe to say that most do not. Otherwise, you could painstakingly edit together clips to achieve the time-lapse effect.

The Sony HDR-SR12 has time-lapse. There are bound to be others - perhaps someone else can suggest additional makes & models.

Andrew.

Could try istopmotion, I think it is only for mac though. It offers a good software alternative.

Re: Time-lapse camera?

I think it depends what your going to do with it. If it's for a home project then your camcorder might be sufficient depending on the rate.

For something more professional you might do well to check out the 'lobster pot'. These are UK based but seem to do a lot of professional construction and security time lapse work in the middle east.

You can get an idea of the range of time lapse equipment options from TLS Electronics in the US.

Re: Time-lapse camera?

Or you can tether a digital camera to your pc via usb. Pretty sure canon offer this (time-lapse) as standard.
