Canon BP-808 Battery

I've been sent the spare battery that no doubt a number of us have been waiting for for a few weeks. It was part of the deal from Equipment Express when I purchased my Canon HF100. The Battery they have sent me is a black...(that doesn't really bother me,being a spare battery. The HF100 as we all know is silver) official Canon battery with the "intelligent business etc. It's a BP-808 which looks exactly like the silver 809 that came with the camcorder untill you slot it in (which incidently fits in perfectly) and then you realise it's actually...(and not by much say 3-4 mm) not quite as deep. A little search on the net seems to suggest this 808 bat is for the FS series. Should I worry that this is not an 809? Could it do harm?

Re: Canon BP-808 Battery

If it's not listed in the instruction manual as a compatible battery, then I'd be a little reluctant to use it. But if it is, I wouldn't be.

Re: Canon BP-808 Battery

while you have a battery thread open, where are good places to get extra batteries for the hf100, and can you get larger capacity ones, and an external charger? Don't purpose i can use the charges from my 40d?

Re: Canon BP-808 Battery

Actually to update the thread I started. In looking, the BP-808 is listed in the manual as compatble....and in practise it seems to power up the camcorder fine fully reporting the battery time remaining etc.

Re: Canon BP-808 Battery

I got a couple of BP809 and a bigger BP819 from ebay from China. If you want originals you'll have to pay a lot more. The ones from China include a charger as they don't charge on Canon chargers, and they also don't show time remaining on the camcorder. But they work fine.

The BP-819 is the larger capacity one (it's also physically larger). Very few people seem to have it in stock.

This is the CG-800. amazon.co.uk seem to have the best prices (from all the well known sellers) for both this and the BP-819, but neither are in stock. warehouseexpress.com sometimes have the CG-800 in stock at 59.99 and it's also listed at devoncamera.co.uk at 56.99
