Camcorder without docking station for data transfer?

Hi all

First post here

I have been considering getting a high definition camcorder for under the £600 price range. I have been looking at camcorders such as the panasonic HDC SD9 and the canon HG10.

My previous camcorder wasn't particularly good but the most frustrating thing about it was its docking station.

I can understand using a docking station for it to recharge, but I didn't like having to use it to transfer data to the computer because it involved several cables and was quite fiddly.

Does anyone know of any good high definition camcorders which, while may use a docking station to charge, can transfer data to a computer directly from the camcorder using cable?

Re: Camcorder without docking station for data transfer?

The SD9 doesn't have a docking station, nor the SD5 before it. Not sure about the HG10 - but I don't think it has a docking station.

High definition cameras recording in the AVCHD format use USB connections for file transfer, and the cameras themselves are adorned with a USB port. Or, if recording to SD card (e.g. SD9) you can take the card out of the camera and use a card reader to import your video.

I agree: docking station, schmocking station.

Andrew.
