Sony HDR-CX11E- availability?

hi everyone,

read lots of great threads here and decided on a Sony. The SR10/11/12s are lovely but probably a bit bit for me to be bothered carrying around.

So its either the TG3E or the new CX11E. Both are memory stick camcorders, both pretty small.

Ive been looking around everywhere for a cx11e to play with but no job. My local Currys had a CX6E reduced to 450 as its the end of the line which seemed like a good deal but the things ive ehard about the cx11e may kae it worht searching around for.

any advise on

-am i doing the right thing?

-is it enough better than the tg3 and cx6 to justify price and wait?

-where would i find one?

thanks in advance!

Correct, the CX11E is due out in August (I've not seen a specific date).

Yes. It's flash memory based (like the HF10). Lacks the mic input of both the SR12 and the HF10. I'd expect video performance to be similar to the SR12/HF10.

Re: Sony HDR-CX11E- availability?

Lacks an EVF too, worse luck.

Single big CMOS makes it competition (for me) to the HDC-SD100 which appeared so favourable in the specs.

Reckon my SD7 will have to do a bit longer.

Re: Sony HDR-CX11E- availability?

hmmm.

why do i always get stuck in this situation! if i wait for the bugger it'll come out in 6 months, if i buy something else, it'll come out next week!

i think i'll go for the TG3 and try to ignore the cx11 when it comes out so i dont get the 'i wish i had waited..' blues!

Re: Sony HDR-CX11E- availability?

I saw a website to buy this from last night, it was around £675 though and seeing as the only differences between it and the £400 SR10 is the CX11 has Smile Shutter technology, is lighter and can only record 25mins of HD video at the highest quality without spending any more money on flash cards.

I'll try and find a link.

Edit:- ok so I can't find the Link in my Internet History, I know they definately sell them on eBay.co.uk though.

There are other differences. The most significant is that the CX11 has a larger sensor (it is the same as the SR11 in this regard, not the SR10). The CX11 also has a mic input. I would say the CX11 is more comparable to the SR11 than the SR10 (though it doesn't have a EVF).

Re: Sony HDR-CX11E- availability?

I was tempted to wait for the CX11 too (or the £450 CX12 in the States). I've gone for the TG3 instead. The idea of a small cam is appealing. Plus the g/f likes the TG3. I didn't get so much grief getting that one.

The CX11 has the same sensor as the SR11/SR12 (probably the same lens too). The SR10 has the same sensor as the TG3. The TG3 has a 'smaller' lens than the SR10 but oddly the TG3 has the larger aperture at the wide end (3.2mm f1.8 vs 3.1mm f1.8) - a whole 0.1mm extra light getting in.

Re: Sony HDR-CX11E- availability?

I have bought the HDR-CX12E which is identical to the CX11E, its a very nice camcorder, feels better built than the Canon HF10 that I have used.

Playback of HD video recorded at HD SP 7M (67 min on 4gb card) on a 46" X3500 via a playstation 3, is very nice and only gets better as you up the bit rate and resolution.

I happy at the HQ setting (9Mbps), gives me about 55 mins on the card, the camera takes some very good pictures and the 'Smile shutter' technology works well.

Its small enough and lite enough for what I need, and I am about to take it on holiday with me to give it a good test.

Re: Sony HDR-CX11E- availability?

where did u get ur cx12e from? and do you know what the difference is to the cx11e?
I can hardly find any info on these cams on the internet.

Only place ive seen to get the cx12e from was a japanese shop on ebay
but u would have to pay the customs yourself..

Re: Sony HDR-CX11E- availability?

Anyone found any reviews on this camera yet? Ive been looking and havent found any at all.
Im particularly interested in if it can still do the slowmo thing the sr11/12 could do.

it is quite a bit bigger than the TG3 so I find it hard to compare the two

Re: Sony HDR-CX11E- availability?

CX12 is NTSC (for US and Japan). CX12e is PAL version for the rest of the world except Europe. We get the CX11e which will have various features disabled, like any VCR ability.

If you can find a CX12e that's what I would get.

It's the law. In Europe, electronic equipment with the capacity to duplicate commercial recordings (audio, broadcast, home cinema, etc) is taxed. Electronics are overpriced here anyway, so the manufacturers avoid the additional price hike by removing such functions.

Right cheers. Is there any issues with finding one of them like power supply or anything like that?

Power supplies are universal these days
Any other issue are covered in threads where buying from the USA have been discussed
A little search will show you ..

Apologies , My mistake
The e version is European. I thought you meant the NTSC version.
However Power suppiles are universal
Problem ist hat Sony sometimes uses Japan and the USA as "test markets" holding off an early an E version , and when it does come .. often more costly with a feature or 2 not there

Re: Sony HDR-CX11E- availability?

I live in bangkok, and i have played around with a cx12 (dont tell my wife) and it really is better then the hf100 as a hd camcorder. In thailand it gets dark from 6pm all year round, so i want good low light something the canon doesn't have! More then that though i was also looking at the hr10 and sr11 respectively to compare, i heard that the sr11 has hd noise sometimes (although could not find this in testing) although i can assure picture quality is amazing. I then thought ill try last years sr10 which is not bad and comparable in most respects to sr11 and cx12 but the manual controls ,though limited, on the newer cams makes a massive difference, and face/smile detection make added extra's to better the overall feel from canon. Like the panasonic sd9/hs9 the canon hf100 was too lightweight cheap to hold and plasticy, I also didnt like the lay out of buttons, and having a sony (trv60) before am use to touch screen control. The sony though still lightweight have a more overall quality feel when in the hand shooting, it fits my big hand (as in long and thin - careful) perfectly and as a complete unit i have two cons towards it. Obviously the price of the flash memory being one, though they do get cheaper i can get 16gb for 85 quid, so so though i could get 2 x 8gb for 60 so i'm not that bothered. The other is price, but i suppose thats the point nothing else comes close and so i will wait for the sales in 6 months time 45000 badt which is 700 quid (damn merica's get em for $899 and it will probably be 650 in no time) if only i could get one delivered ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

you would think being in Thailand would mean cheap prices, however this is not the case and prices are more over the same as in the UK( with older machines being cheaper in the UK)!
SORRY I just cant get over the cx12 being 450 quid in the US, !

Good cam i think the best flash to date, much better then the hf100 in pic and features. Though hf100 is okay and would suit many, its cheaper and sdhc are cheaper and will produce good results - just not low light.

hope this might help someone..........

yeah thanks, this does help. I just find flash memory pointless when it is the expensive sony cards instead of sdhc

Re: Sony HDR-CX11E- availability?

no probs. I understand what your saying about flash and sony, it really should be time for them to learn.
However also consider the problems with HDD, with noise, breakdown and those expenses to quality and money. By all means take a look at the sr10 or 11 both good models and do a great job in my opinion. The canon hf100 is a good bit of kit but lacks that certain finesse in my opinion. The canon hf10 why pay more for integrated memory and black(get the hf100)???

maybe one day sdhc will be on a sony or even more surprising memory stick as cheap as sd cards. i know.

I agree with your points re: HDD. I think the reason why I prefer the HDD cams is that they seem to be the only ones big enough to incorporate a viewfinder these days.

I am also interested in a Sony HDR CX 11/12e. I see on ebay that you can buy (from Japan) a new cam with the following description http://pics.ebaystatic.com/aw/pics/g...ts/ltCurve.gif

SONY HDR-CX11 CX11E CX12 CX12E HD HANDYCAM PAL JAPAN !

which is stated to be just one camcorder i.e. the cx11 is the cx12e for £639. Do you think this would be a risky move and would it be better to wait for the cx11e to be available here. I see that some of the features on the cx11e will be disabled - are these significant?

Without seeing the advertisement itself, I'd be wary of a listing which seems uncertain about exactly which configuration / model is being sold!

Cheers,
Andrew.

ive seen that on ebay. But you have to pay the customs. which on 639 quid is gona be pretty high I would have thought.
that put me off.

Im thinking about the canon hf11 now. Both the hr11 and cx12e look very similar and with similar prices i think.

Re: Sony HDR-CX11E- availability?

Guys,
I bought my HDR-CX12E from a UK EBAY supplier, the unit was purchased in Japan but was sold from the UK. The unit came with a worldwide warranty which I registered with Sony UK with no problems at all. The EBAY supplier also provided a high capacity spare battery for it, which for the approx £670 in total was a good purchase.

I have just come back of holiday from New York, and managed to get some great footage with it including some good digital photos.

A nice way of avoiding the cost of Sony DUO PRO's, I purchased a portable media drive in the US for £70 (40GB approx 10 hours HD @ HQ setting), its the size of a 2.5" usb hard drive and I copy all my HD video's and pictures across to it with a single press of a button. The card plugs into one of many card slots and within 5-7 minutes everything is backed up onto the device.

Hope this helps,

Sanjay
