Sony TG3 / PS3 owners

I'm thinking of buying a PS3 just to make life easier to view HD recordings from this camcorder.

Its mainly for ease and the mrs, also PS3 is blueray and blueray players are around 200 quid anyway. Can i just check, would we be able to put the 4gb memory card into the PS3 and copy the recordings to PS3 internal HDD?

AND

If i connected an external USB hdd to the PS3 can you copy the recordings from the memory card slot directly to that too?

Also, if you press record / stop / record on the TG3, does that equal 2 separate AVCHD files?

Thanks all,

Yes

Yes , you can play them off the Ext HDD too long as it is FAT32

Im not sure about the TG3 but it seems to be the norm for all HDD camcorders , even SD
And
You might need THIS to rejoin them for seamless playback

Re: Sony TG3 / PS3 owners

Thanks!

Do you know if the PS3 can play back dvd's with AVCHD files on them?

And i think i will need an external USB card reader - but i read up on the external HDD on the PS3. Apparently everything has to be under 4gig.

I can format the external HDD to FAT 32 and hopefully someone can confirm that the TG3 record multiple files when you press record/stop. Then i will just get a load of 4gig cards. Either burn't to DVD as AVCHD or put onto the external HDD. via the PS3.

Re: Sony TG3 / PS3 owners

Is it true that the 40gig ps3's dont have a pro duo slot built in?

Would i have to get a USB reader? And will copying the raw untouched TG3 recordings from a USB reader to a USB external HDD still work direct through the PS3?

thank you!

It would seem likely

Yes ,it will also work with edited files as long as PS3 can read the format. andit can read a fair few including HDV ( mpeg2 1080i) amongst others

I don't have a PS3 but my son does, the 40gig PS3 doesn't have a card reader slot but I believe earlier models do, I tried plugging in a 2.5 USB HDD and the PS3 couldn't read it, it may be that it will only read Fat32 formated HD's or it will only read 3.5 self powered HDD's

Re: Sony TG3 / PS3 owners

I'm back again,

Can the PS3 play TG3 files as a movie. E.g. i have 10 recordings on a card that i copy to the ps3. Can it play all 10 one after each other like a movie (without stopping), like the camcorder does when it is plugged straight into the TV?

thanks,

Re: Sony TG3 / PS3 owners

I suspect they will be treated as individual files and stop after each one
You may need to use THIS to combine them on the PC

Re: Sony TG3 / PS3 owners

I was hoping that wasn't the case - a bit of a show stopper for me

I was hoping i could just copy saying 10 TG3 clips into a folder on the PS3 and play them all in one go like a movie; on a playlist.

If it stops after each clip (some of them are only a few seconds long) that would spoil it completely.

Someone told me you can't even create folders on the PS3's HDD.

Re: Sony TG3 / PS3 owners

Just combine them on a PC with the freebee .It wont reencode the files and should not take long to do
This Issue affects all non tape camcorder, be they AVCHD or mpeg2, HDD or SD card
As you know even with tape , capture as clips is the preffered option to enble easy editing
