Thanks: Gave 0, Got 1 | Sony hdr-sr10?
New User here :]
I was thinking about upgrading to this camcorder, http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...52921665291476
As currently I have an Aiptek a-hd 720p camcorder, and realized that for what I want, It was not a good choice.
So I wanted to know if this was a good camcorder to purchase, I've found it for a good price(MUCH lower than $999) but just want to have some second opinion, I know I want something HD, I'll be using this camera for Home videos and possibly making short -films?- just for friends and youtube and what-not. So I just want someones opinion who owns one or has experience with it. My computer can playback HD well enough, so I was wondering what is some good editing software as well. Currently all I have is Divx Author, but that kills the quality of the video when you export it.
Thanks for the help!
P.S. How would a guitar sound in this Camera's Audio?

The SR10 is very good.
if you are concerned about audio, and can stretch the budget, the SR11 can take an external mic. It also has better video performance.
Both are AVCHD cams, so you need software which can edit this (there are several; e.g. Ulead Video Studio, Ulead DVD Movie Factory, Pinnacle 12, Sony Vegas). And a fast PC.

My PC is fine I believe, its pretty fast, I thought the SR10 had a hotshoe for external mic's as well, doesn't it?
Alright, thank you, also, some people were saying that the color is dull, is this true or is it just opinion? I'm not particualrly worried about this, but its a minor concern.

The SR12 has the Sony AIS shoe, which can take a Sony AIS mic, though there are few of those (and in the UK at least appear to all be discontinued). The SR11/SR12 has a mic socket so can take any mic.
I would not say the colour is dull, no. You can adjust it if it is not saturated enough for you.

The SR 10 is good , and shares more features with the SR11 than not
Its achilles heel is that the SR 11 and 12 are better and inevitably comparisons will be made
Simply put, If you had it you wouldnt want to upgrade.
As you dont, you have to look at the cost difference and How much the better lens, mic in, Headphone in and somewhat better low light( the SR11 has a bigger sensor) mean to you AFAIK its colour is not a problem

well external mic's aren't a big concern, and I doubt I'll need it THAT much in low lighting situations, but I'm on a short budget so compared to what I have now this camera seems very nice, I can't afford anything past about $500, which is the price I've found this camera cheapest at. And it has night-shot on it, so if do need it for extremely low light I'll be fine with that, I know it's range too.
*edit* Also I was curious, if you film a video in HD can you still play it back on an SD-TV just without seeing it High Def.?
and the same with SD footage. If I record in standard Def, will it playback on a normal television without having to burn it to DVD?

Whether you shoot in HD or SD, you can play back from the camcorder on either a HD or SD TV.

Ok that's good, I didn't want to but the camera then realize I need an HD-TV to watch it on. Sorry for all the questions, I haven't owned many camcorders, I want to get into them and stuff but I don't have much money so I've been limited to what I can buy. Now I just have to save up money for this camera.
