HD camcorder

Hi there,
First post in this section so sorry if this seems daft. We are thinking of getting a camcorder for the growing family. Before we start to narrow the search down (already like the Panny SD5) i have a question with regards HD cameras. I have a HD TV but no HD DVD player/recorder. So if i record using a HD camera and transfer to my laptop for editing do you usual then transfer to standard DVD or will it need to be HD/Blue ray ones? Eventual will trade up to a Blue ray player, just not yet.
Apologise for the garble question

With an sd5 you can expect very good image quality regardless of having a blu-ray player. Also, plugging the sd5 into your hdtv directly will increase the quality. I have a PS3 which is a Blu-ray player as well as being able to transfer your clips directly onto the PS3 hard drive. The PS3 can play these files without any configuration. You could evenm go that little extra for the SD9 for that extra quality in true full HD. Though you do also have to make sure that your laptop will handle the high resolution and bitrate of the videos otherwise you will be stranded when coming to edit your videos.

Thanks 000dom000... Dont have PS3 only managed to talk the boss into going as far as a Wii.
With regards my laptop being able to handle the high resolution and bitrate would this just be related to the SD9? Hopeing it would be able to deal with the SD5

Well if you have the sd5 there is a little better chance of having it work on a slower laptop, but it all depends on your system. Editing movies may put even more stress on it, however my laptop is far from new or top range but can handle 720p streams but 1080i or 1080p can be a bit hit and miss. The sd5 records at a max of 1080i and sd9 records max 1080p, but the bitrate is a lot less in the sd5 with a max of 13mbps compared to 17 in the sd9. If you wish to view in high res like 1080 then you're going to need a tv that displays that much which is why if 1080 doesn't work as well in your laptop, you can always record in 720p or lower bitrate.
