How to get 1080p output with SD9 ?

I would be grateful if someone could explain to me why this is happening..

I have a Panasonic SD9D recording at 1080P..

I have a Samsung full HD (1080P) TV, and to this is connected a PS3, which runs at 1080P

When I play back the recorded footage from my SD9 via the PS3 it plays it back at 1080i not 1080P

Same when I record the footage to DVD with the HD Writer software, and play it back via PS3, plays back at 1080i

Even the SD9 itself, only has 1080i output options for HDMI and Component. Why not 1080P ?

Am i missing something here? lol..

Thanks.
TiM.

Do you have 24p mode switched on?

My TV is only 1080i so I can't tell if it helps

Hi HummerUK

Thanks for the reply.

Its a PAL cam, so I have 25pDigital Cinema turned on.. That would be correct, wouldnt it?

I just dont understand why the PS3 reverts to 1080i when I play it back.

Re: How to get 1080p output with SD9 ?

I've just thought of something...

1080i on my TV is at 50Hz

and 1080P is displayed at 60Hz

Would the 25p on the camera be recording at 50Hz? Thus why the TV is using 1080i ?

TiM.

P.S Just played a Bluray movie, and its 1080p at 24Hz.. so that blows that theory out of the water.. lol

Re: How to get 1080p output with SD9 ?

I was under the impression that a 1080i feed to a 1080 p display would be shown at 1080p ( the display would do the deinterlacing,)
As such getting 1080p footage from the camcorder should not be n issue beyond the academics of it
Given how good some satellite HD programming looks ( and they are 720p or 1080 i) I wonder just how much better a natively shot camcorder footage at 1080p will be
Just my tuppence worth!
