Canon FS100 - your views?

Hi all

Apoligies for being another first time poster asking advice, but I am a noob with camcorders so I would value your opinions.

I am looking for an easy to use camcorder for general use (family/holidays etc) in the £200-£250 region with Flash Memory. So far I am leaning toward the Canon FS100.

What do you guys think? A good choice or is there something better that fits the above criteria?

I have to tell you as well that I don't really like camcorders, but they are an essential when you have a family in my opinion. The last 2 camcorders I have had were both Samsung, the first was a Mini DV and I had nothing but problems, I eventually managed to get it replaced with another Samsung that was DVD - that one was even worse, battery life was terrible, even copying the mini DVD to PC and then to regular DVD was a pain in the ar*e

So what I really need is something that produces a good picture, and is easy and FUN to use

TIA

I don't know the Canon FS100, it is that new to me, maybe others will comment, but Ive heard good things in the main, so far
I did use the Canon HG10 and have nothing but praise for it even though I own Sony tape models

I do think though that your experience with Samsung camcorders may have slightly tainted your views

Samsung make excellent displays, and even refrigerators but their camcorders..... suck

Replacing a MiniDV one with a DVD model was a big mistake
Camcorders can be fun to use, and reliable and all are easy to use.The better featured ones always have an "auto" newbee mode

Thanks for the reply.

It didn't take me long to figure out the move to DVD was not a good one (and Samsung were rubbish!), one of the things that sounds good to me about the Canon FS100 is the 3 hour battery time.

You will need a good pc to make any decent films with avchd. The canon you are thinking about is a very good cam if you can live without a viewfinder and use the lcd for all the filming, personaly i could not as out doors with the sun out i can see nothing with them but you may be able to.

Re: Canon FS100 - your views?

The FS100 is standard def MPEG2, not AVCHD (not to be confused with the HF100...)
