Angry OnBoard Vehicle Video. Elmo SUV-Cam.Soft pix

Great concept! Tiny 3/4" dia video camera on 1.5 me cord to small, pockable solid state recorder onto SanDisc 4gb (optional) flash card. No moving parts.. On my first several attempts at on Jeep recording. Rock steady but S O F T pictures.. I tried playback in Windows Media Player. Soft. Switched my MiniMac from PC back to Mac OS X and loaded the movie files in that great 'Freeware' VLC.. Played it perfectly but still very soft..Specs as per manual: 480 x 420 horizontal res. 1/4" CCD. Effective number pxls 440,000. Compliant with mpeg4. Perfect unit if I can just get a crisp picture. Focus? Surely I should'nt have to all the focus routine, like when I bought a Sony DSR-300 with a separate Fujion lens. Focus test sheet and all. I realise, if we changed the lens, we have to focus it, but this factory set. Any thoughts guys? Thanks. RockyOne Australia......................................... Several hours and a million forums later.. It appears Elmo have tied their video codec to Microsof .asf format which is under the WMV umbrella I believe. Apparently, not able to be converted to the better quality and much more universal Apple™ QuickTime® player. Would I have purchased the Elmo SUV-Cam II if I was aware of this. Not likely! Great quality and well engineered combo, apparently spoilt by a poor choice of video software. PC is not a problem for me as my Macs run Parallels® Desktop so I have them both running on my 28" ViewSonic LCD at same time. Just 'drag and drop' from one to another. (We run 10 or so PCs in our biz, on Win 98 not Vis_ta, like most pc users even though Vis_ta come bundled with h/w) Heaps of serious video action PC users are going to get their fingers burned on this one I fear, but surely their must be a way out of the mire........Help guys.........
