New SR11 - 5.1 sound

Just received my SR11 from Pixmania and will try it out over the weekend.

I have SKY HD box feeding my Toshiba TV by HDMI. Sound is fed optically from the SKY box to a Toshiba/Koi Home Cinema system so I get the benefit of any surround-sound broadcasts.

The SR11 has an HDMI output. I cannot for the life of me work out how realise the 5.1 output of the SR11 into this set-up.

Any suggestions?

Re: New SR11 - 5.1 sound

Usually , the AV receiver would have an HDMI which the camcorder is connected to, it will also have one to connect it to the TV

As such the TV will get a signal from the camcorder ( via the amp) and as the amp is getting a direct feed from camcorder, it wil be getting a 5.1 audio

The alternative is if the TV has optical out and outputs this to the AV amp. the camcorder connected directly to the TV via HDMI can then be heard via the Av amp as 5.1
clear as mud .eh?

Senu, Thanks for your quick reply.

If only.

The Home Cinema has only optical or L/R phonos to connect an external input.

The Tosh TV does not have an optical connection in or out.

Well if you make SD DVDs , the 5.1 may be preserved in software.. surely there has to be some way

No harm in hoping besides there is nothing wrong with Dolby Pro Logic II.

Two options.

1. Senu said it...burn a SD DVD.
2. Buy a PS3 and link the camcorder to that using USB.

I have a SR7 and I use option 2. It sounds great..especially on outside shots when you can hear birds & things tweeting away all around you

Re: New SR11 - 5.1 sound

Hi Jus and all,

Your response assumes a certain competence on my part.

I assume that 'burn a SD DVD' means download from the camera hard disk to a DVD to include all surround sound. I think I can do this with my PC by connecting USB (Dell XPS) which has a DVD burner. Interestingly the XPS also has a HDMI output.

The PS3 solution is not obvious to me. Would this link to or subsitute for my Koi Home Cinema?
