looking for a camcorder for £200.
here's two i've been looking at.
sony hdd sr52
an
Panasonic VDRD51

the sony looks good for the money, but i no nothing about camcorder!

anyone got any thoughts?

HDD camcorders at this price range are underwhelming, regardless of brand IMHO

The Panasonic you mention records direct to mini DVD. You won't get astounding (or even close) picture quality, but it's convenient if all you want is something to point, shoot, and view unedited footage with. You can probably do the same with the Sony, which records to harddrive instead of mini DVD, but you'd need to plug the camera into a TV or download the clips onto a computer.

Visit some High Street stores and at the very least hold on to the cameras. If you're lucky and ask nicely, staff may even be willing to discuss pros and cons of different models at your price point.
