Playing back 'pal' AVCHD on US Blu-Ray player?

Hi all

I have created an AVCHD DVD in Picture Motion Browser with footage from my UK bought TG3.

However, it will not play back on my US sourced Blu-Ray player.

Now, I seem to remember a thread where someone had done this successfully. Anyone out there can help me with this?

Thanks

Dene

Re: Playing back 'pal' AVCHD on US Blu-Ray player?

It may have less to do with whether the camcorder was PAL or NTSC but whether the actualy Bluray Player can playback AVCHD discs
AFAIK, the PS3 can ( regardless of region of camcorder) and Most Sony BD Players ( but not all)
Samsung, Panasonic or Pioneer BD players may not support AVCHD discs unless specifically stated to do so
If however it proves to be a PAL/NTSC issue, it should be easy ( during the output stage ) to specify "NTSC" region output in software ( I just tried it with Nero Vision 5)

It's a Sony player.

Will I see any degradation in quality if I change the video format of my footage?

Thanks

Probably not,it is software dependent though Im not sure how good PMB is

In the world of SD converting PAL to NTSC is generally OK ( if not ideal)
Im pretty sure a "PAL" BD player would play an AVCHD disc from an NTSC camcorder though
It may just be that your Sony Model does not support AVCHD discs ( Have a read of its manual )

My BDP-S300 definitely is supposed to able to handle AVCHD but I still can't do it. The supplied software is a bit bobbins to be honest. I'm just going to output to SD for now and make do until I can justify splashing out on a Blu-Ray recorder.

You can try Nero Vision 5 .. (Part of Nero 8) instead of settling for SD
You will still have to convert from NTSC to PAL even with SD unless you are relying on the BD player
It would have been better to have an NTSC camcorder and "PAL" BD player for compatibility as most PAL kit cam play NTSC

D
i presume you meen splashing out on a blue-ray burner, recorders in the future for here
one thing i have found my ps3 will allow my sr12s footage to play through it fine and the footage can be uploaded to the ps3 as well but playback can only be at one clip at a time, so after each clip i must press stop to play another clip so realy a waste of time storing it this way.

Re: Playing back 'pal' AVCHD on US Blu-Ray player?

You could join them up with Nero Vision 5 though
(And PMB, Im told)
The various clips can be output to one "file" and the reencoded one should play continously

Yes
Or even make an AVCHD disc (Which the PS3 will play)

Re: Playing back 'pal' AVCHD on US Blu-Ray player?

Sorry to hijack but I have a similar problem I have made a 1080/25 capture from my sky HD box (with a hauppauge HD PVR) and burnt it as an AVCHD on a DVD which my UK PS3 will play but not my US PS3 is the only difference likely to be 25Hz rather than 30Hz-surely the PS3 can handle 1080/25?

Re: Playing back 'pal' AVCHD on US Blu-Ray player?

The US PS3's will not play both 50i and 60i whereas the UK machines will. The only workaround for UK owners with US machines is to burn the m2ts/mts files as a data disc which for some reason will be played by the PS3.

If you burn it as a blu-ray structured dvd it won't play.
