Buying 1st Ever Camcorder

Hi,

I have been doing a bit of research and I think I'm probably going to opt for a Hdd Camcorder, rather than DV Tape or SD cards.

What would people recommend for around £200, I would be using it for my holidays.

Thanks in advance

Phil

Re: Buying 1st Ever Camcorder

For £200, I would recommend a miniDV tape cam. (e.g. Canon MD235).

Hmm why miniDV? Are they easy to get onto your computer? I was thinking Hdd just for ease of use..

Re: Buying 1st Ever Camcorder

Because at this price point, miniDV models give the best quality.

Getting footage on to a PC is easy (just need a Firewire port on the PC), though transfer is in real time. (I.e. it takes an hour to copy a 1 hour tape).

HDD has some advantages in terms of ease of use (easier to find and quickly copy specific clips).

Re: Buying 1st Ever Camcorder

Ok thanks for your suggestion. I think that Hdd takes precedence over the quality though, it will just be a hell of a lot easier for me.

Any suggestions? Am willing to stretch to around the £230 mark possibly..

Thanks

Re: Buying 1st Ever Camcorder

Sorry, no, there aren't any I would recommend.

Panasonic SDR-H 280, but that is £300+. If you can find a discontinued Panasonic SDR-H 250 for a cheap price maybe. Or a used Sony SR190...

Re: Buying 1st Ever Camcorder

Well searching on www.pricerunner.co.uk for a HDD camcorder at max £230 came up with a grand total of 1
The only HDD cam in budget was the JVC GZ-MG130EK at £224.99
I'm sure there are a couple of others around this price, but it is the bottom of the range models and as (the other) Mark has said the quality wont be as good as you can get from a miniDV model.

Good luck,
Mark.
