Question Sony HDR TG3 HD Camcorder help needed

Just got this and took some HD/FH clips to play around with, installed the supplied software and imported the files over, with the camera still connected it pulls the files directly from the camera and plays OK, with the camera disconnected it doesnt look elsewhere (I am guessing the Player for AVCHD looks for a drive to pull files from?) The files are imported into the Picture Motion Browser but only files taken in SD/HQ show up? The HD files show up as a blank file, if I go to the folder the files are there and can be viewed in WMP OK, but not in PMB or through PMB?

The "Player for AVCHD" is a DVD/AVCHD player so it only looks for disks in the DVD disk drive.

I've never shot SD footage with my TG3 yet, but PMB should import the files into the chosen folder and display them as thumbnails with the AVCHD symbol, if that's what's been chosen in the "View" options.
Could be that it creates different folders for SD and HD ?

I find that once the files are imported into the selected folder, you shouldn't need the Cam connected, PMB will just go to the selected folder and show all the imported files in folders (on the left hand side) by the date they were created.

It looks like that is what is happening but they all (SD and HD files) get put into the same folder (calender mode so all on 30 June) but the only one that has a thumbnail with something on it is the SD file the HDs have a thumbnail that is empty? When I click on them it opens to a white screen with a little grey box in the centre with a cracked symbol through it? Can you see a pic on the thumbnail for your HD files showing a frame from the file?

Yes you should be able to see thumbnails of HD files

It seems that the HD files are corrupt in some way judging by the symbol you describe.

Try the Folder view and click on the folder to see what thumbnails are shown.
You could also to reformat the card and take some HD only clips, see what happens when you import them to PMB.
Also you could try using the "repair IMG.DBF"

Re: Sony HDR TG3 HD Camcorder help needed

Tried reformatting and repair (first) and shot a HD only clip, then imported to PMB it imports OK and then analyzes as normal but comes up with an error saying 'some videos could not be analyzed' when I go back to the folder list it shows a white square thumbnail? as before, is there some set up on the camera maybe I have triggered by accident? should i return it?

Re: Sony HDR TG3 HD Camcorder help needed

Definately sounds like a fault somwhere, could it be your card ?
Do you have another card you could try?

You did say that the files play o.k when opened straight from the folder on your PC, so I imagine that they are being written properly to the card.
By the way I don't use the Analyze function.

Contacting Sony might be something you could try, or get a replacement.

Re: Sony HDR TG3 HD Camcorder help needed

aaaargh! Got a new TG3 from amazon and experience the same problem - PMB will not play back imported clips - just a white square with a 'broken' icon in the middle.

Clips play back ok in oxygen

Ah ha! Uninstalled Haali media splitter and it all works now

Re: Sony HDR TG3 HD Camcorder help needed

Had same issue with HDR-SR10 clips not analyzing or playing back in Picture Motion Browser.

Have now disabled the MPEG TS splitter (Haali) filter using the K-Lite Codec Tweak Tool and everything looks good now!

Have spent ages looking for a solution to this- Thanks!

Re: Sony HDR TG3 HD Camcorder help needed

i will also back that up

if you have ever installed k-lite codec pack OR vista codec pack it will stop the .mts files from playing in PMB. They show up as a white square with a broken squiggle in the middle.

My HDR-SR10 does exactly the same thing, I will try remiving Haali from my K-Lite codec pack installation when I get home.

kofsw4, your input really saved the day. I had to install the coreavc codec that comes with kalli splitter to get my ps3 to play my HD video with TVersity. PMB no longer worked, I went into Kalli and "re-installed" and just de-selected "enable MPEG TS" and I was working instantly.

I appreciate the help guys!

Re: Sony HDR TG3 HD Camcorder help needed

This problem with video playback in PMB is mentioned in some literature supplied with camera ( not handbook ).
Also check out Sony website....support....digital imaging...camcorder area....AVCHD memorystick camcorders......HDRTG3E....under general notes it gives PMB video playback troubleshooting info. headinclouds
