Hi,

My 4 month old Canon HV20 has taken a small fall / knock. As it's not exactly well built, it's suffered some minor damage. The power input socket is broken and loose within the camera. The camera functions fine on battery power.

Wanting to save a bob or two, I sent the Camera to an independent specialist. They came back with a reasonable repair cost. However, they said the camera would require a new motherboard and that there was no guarantee Canon would supply this part to them. In addition, they said it would take several weeks before they could ascertain whether Canon would supply this part or not?

I have my camera back now so I'm thinking of the next step ie. Canon Repair??? Any advice / experience!? Or any recommended alternatives (other than selling the unit on Ebay:-))!!!

Surely this is covered under your home contents insurance under 'Accidental Damage'? Of course, you will almost certainly have to pay an excess, but this may well be less than the total cost of repair direct with Canon or independant repairer (taking into account delivery charges).
