I cant decide between the 3...
i like the sony physically, panasonic is 3ccd which i'm thinking must be better(?), yet canon seems to be getting top reviews..

Canon's the best. You have to compromise I am afraid.

Sorry to hi-jack this but co-incidentally I am also considering these three cameras. Could I ask why you think the Canon is the best, and what compromises you have to have from the others.

I want a simple camera that is easy to use, will produce good quality images in mostly daylight, and is portable and unobtrusive for holidays and family events. I also have a Mac so editing on this is important. I am drawn to the Sony based on the compact and slim profile. What do I need to compromise on over the Canon if I go for portability.

Thanks
Andy

The Sony will do that. It's just the Canon video quality (from clips and reviews I've seen) seems slightly better. But it is less portable.

This
NEW : Sony HDR-TG3/TG1 - New Smallest 1080i camcorder
will give you a bit of an idea. It compares to the HV30, not the HF10, but the HF10 and HV30 are similar in performance.

The compromise is simply trading off a (small) bit of quality, to get the smaller size TG3.

Ooh, I'm late this afternoon.

Yes, as Mark says you have to sacrifice a bit of the image quality for the small size of the TG3.

Personally, I'd forget the SD9 - it isn't good enough IMHO and its successor is already announced. OK, not a successor, perhaps but something that should eclipse it image quality wise.
