What is best HD camcorder for me.. HV30 or Sony?

Hello everyone i'm new here (longtime reader though)

I'm about to buy a new HD camcorder and it seems that everyone recommend HV30.

However it seems that's the HV30 does not shoot in TRUE 30p?

I do not care about 1080p or 1080i... all what i want is True 1280x720p30 (Not 60i converted to 30p like what the hv30 does)
is there any camcorder in the market that can shoot true 720p30?

Also is it true that Sony AVCHD format is the future and tape based camcorder is a thing from the past? i don't want to buy a camcorder to find 1 year later its format is dead

My Budget for the camcorder is 1500$ MAX

Help

Re: What is best HD camcorder for me.. HV30 or Sony?

Sanyo HD1000 can do 30p, also 60p - either 720 or 1080.

But I think the HV30 is better.
What do you want the progressive mode for, and what is the issue with it being packaged in a 60i stream?

AVCHD is indeed becoming more popular than HDV. We won't see HDV die, at least not in the next year.

I heard stories about not being able to edit True progressive videos with fake progressive videos (60i converted to 30p)

I know there is ways to get around this problem but it wastes a lot of time and need to edit the Fake progressive first or so i heard

I just rather buy True progressive camcorder

I dont want to go through all this .... http://eugenia.gnomefiles.org/2008/0...ldown-removal/

Re: What is best HD camcorder for me.. HV30 or Sony?

There is nothing fake about the progressive recording on the HV30. The PAL model can shoot progressive 25fps, the NTSC one 30 fps. It's stored in an interlaced "container", but when edited it is progressive.

The issue comes with 24p, which involves 3:2 pulldown, and if the software doesn't support that you can have issues.

And the PAL version doesn't have the 3:2 pulldown issues (as the quoted article states)

If you are a PAL user go for the PAL version.
