Sony HDR-CX11/12 - Discussion Thread

Sony has just announced the replacement for the long serving HDR-CX6/7. To be known as the HDR-CX12 in the US and the HDR-CX11 in European PAL countries, and no doubt the HDR-CX12e in non-European PAL countries.

Looks like they are having a go at the canon HF10/100.

Doesn't do it for me like the Panasonic HDC-SD100.

If that 'Smile Shutter' tech works, it's the greatest innovation of the 21st Century Especially for those of us with kids

Wow - lots of new models.
I agree at first glance at least (which is all I've done) the Panasonic HDC-SD100 looks more exciting.

Re: Sony HDR-CX11/12 - Discussion Thread

I've drooled over a CX6 (as you know) but never could justify the price.

I rather think that Sony have rested on the laurels with this update. It doesn't seem a whole lot different to the CX6, does it?

Exclamation Re: Sony HDR-CX11/12 - Discussion Thread

Hello All,

I am seriously considering buying this camera but have noticed this,

1) Sonystyle.co.uk state camera as "FullHD 1080i"

2) Pixmia.co.uk state camera as "FullHD 1080p"

a) Can any one confirm what is the real case "i" or "p"?
b) Is it legal or agreed by industry to lable 1080i as FullHD if so how is 1080p defined?

Many Thanks for your thoughts on the subject matter

The CX11/12 is 1080i. I'd far sooner trust the spec from Sony's site and that agrees with the reviews as well.

I thought that FullHD was 1080P, as that's what Sony seemed to market it as initially, but more recently they seem to be using it for their 1080i HD cams. I think the only reliable thing regarding FullHD is that it has 1080 in there somewhere.

The CX11 has no progressive recording mode.

I kinda like it for that.
