Thanks: Gave 1, Got 3 | Sony Home Cinema and AVCHD
Do I now need to buy a Blue Ray DVD in order to watch my recorded DVDs...???
Do I understand this correctly. I can upload my HD movies from my camcorder to my PC, create HD DVDs but then not be able to watch them on my Sony home cinema???

The AVCHD footage I took ( Sony SR7 ) and recorded to dvd would play on a Sony Bluray player only , no other makes ie Pan/Samsung.
I think a Sony PS3 plays the HD disks you create.

The PS3 will play
AVCHD files burnt as data to DVD disc: This is in its media player "mode"
It can also play an "AVCHD disc"
This is a DVD disc with Hi def files burn to it as if it were a BluRay disc ( like a "mini" BD disc)
It caould have a menu and the likes of Nero vision 5 or Ulead VS 11.5/Movie factory 6+ can help the process
The PS3 can play this back in its BD player "mode"
Some BD players can do this too like the Sony Lurcher has mentioned. While it is possible that others can you have to see it stated as such
Certainly computer based solutions can play both a data based AVCHD DVD disc and an "AVCHD disc" with the right software and some computers are able to act as input source for an HDTV
Be careful with the term HD DVD : it refers to BDs now "dead" rival from Toshiba which is a completely different format

Try outputting to m2t (mpeg2 1080i)
or use THIS
Is this from the full version of Vegas? The Platinum version doesnt output Full HD AVCHD but does for PSP ect, Im not sure these are playable in PS3

i have a converter to ps3 format, so i can use that if i need too, i was just hoping there wouldnt be another step i have to take to get it to play back. Its not the end of the world, because my PS3 is connected to the same TV as the PC, therefore i can view them from the PC.
Having said that, when i render to AVC or m2ts it doesnt seem to render the sound.
Odd...

Sorry to be a bit of a Div, but can you put all this in language that is simple and easy for a novice to understand.
My Sony DVD Home Theatre System lists many CD and DVD formats it can play but does not mention AVCHD, so will I need to change the DVD player for Bluray...???

Odd... | Indeed although You didnt say what version of Vegas you are using
Try editing with Nero Vision 5 ( part of Nero 8) and see if you encounter similar problems
Normally you shouldn't have to convert the avhcd file ,my suggesting of outputting to m2t ( ( not an additional step if you are editing), or using the Red Kawa software was meant to be a helpful work about

Although they may not appear simple for you to understand but they are not intended to confuse you.
It may be that it is actually difficult to explaining in simpler language than that Quote:

Lurchers posts suggest that AVCHD content which has been burnt to a DVD disc in a specifc way "AVCHD disc" playback on the PS3 ( when it is acting as a Blu ray player) or a Sony BD player. So just buying any Bluray player may not be the thing to do.
Also if you did get a Sony player, just burning the AVCHD files as a data disc will not ensure playback ( as it would on a PS3)

Bodger ,
When I had Sony SR7 I used the PMB software supplied and produced a AVCD disc , then took the disc into Comet and tried Panasonic/Samsung & Sony blueray machines.
The disc would only play on the Sony machine so I bought the S300 model.

That acronym refers to Sonys Playstation 3
Nothing more complicated, it is a media player , BD and DVD player and also plays games
Sonys "winning" the Hi def format wars is attributed to it. It is infact a very capable BluRay player. and does more than just that!

My Sony DVD Home Theatre System lists many CD and DVD formats it can play but does not mention AVCHD, so will I need to change the DVD player for Bluray...??? | DVD is not the same as AVCHD, it also does not support High Definition. So no you will not be able to play those files on it. Then again since you don't list a model number nobody will know for certain, but most likely not...
The confusing bit might be that you think it does high definition as it may have got HDMI and be able to upscale but that is just not the same....
Yes you can buy a blu-ray player, I would recommend the Sony PS3, but much cheaper will be to write those files to a proper DVD format and you can play them now...And will still look great...

Did you see Post 11?
I would assume the OP may be finding some of the knowledge we are taking for granted a tad bewildering and perhaps it may be better to give the info in bite sized chunks ensuring each is understood,
