Firewire/digital reciever PCI card for PC

Hi
I am a new member and was hoping that someone can help me with a problem I have getting my camcorder movies onto my PC.I have a Cannon mini camcorder with a firewire output, and a HDD recorder with a DVI input so could just record straight to disc, however I wish to edit the movies so downloading straight to my PC and then editing them in Nero before burning to disc would be the best solution. My problem is the PC has no firewire input. I have one PCI slot available but also want to install a TV/digital reciever card. Does anyone know of a TV/digital reciever and firewire combination card out there?
I have been looking for a while and can only find a TV/reciever and Svideo or analogue video in card. Hauppauge 2200 is an example.
I don't want to dedicate my last PCI slot to just a firewire input card if I don't have to.
Also another question. Does the firewire output from the camcorder allow fast data transfer or does it record in real time to the PC/HDD recorder?Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

It is real time transfer.

As for your other question, I don't know if such a combination card exists.

Do you mean you have a Settop DVD recorrder with HDD with a firewire input?
A DVI input is no use to a camcorder
You can record to DVD then capture the DVD footage by simply placing this in your PC , Editing it then outpputing as DVD from PC. As you are editng mpeg2 rather than DV AVI from the tape there may be some quality loss but it is a method I use from time to time myself

Maybe there is one ( I dont know of any TBH) but there are USB tuners unless you need the analogue in

USB tuner will leave the PCI free for firewire

Firewire to PC is real time but it is actually high speed data transfer given that the hr long footage on the tape is 13Gb

Re: Firewire/digital reciever PCI card for PC

I assumed that by "DVI input" what was meant was "DV input", but as DVI is an interface in itself agree it is confusing.

Sorry, the HDD is a stand alone DVD HDD recorder with a DV input.
I will probably have to stick with recording to disc on the DVD recorder, then transfering to the PC to edit.Seems like a bit of double handling though.

Thanks

Re: Firewire/digital reciever PCI card for PC

How many PCI slots does the PC have and what are they being used for?
You might be able to replace other PCI cards for combined cards such as USB & Firewire combo.

Mark.
