Sony HDR CX7E or Sony HDR-SR12E

I've been looking for a HD camera and hoped that the forums could clarify the main differences between the two Sony cameras.

The Sony HDR CX7E really appeals to me, using memory cards keeps the size of the camera so small that I'm likely to carry it around with me more often.

The HDR-SR12E however seems to support 1080p and has a viewfinder which might be usefull.

I'm not sure what the specs are of the CX7E so can anyone clear it up for me please?

Re: Sony HDR CX7E or Sony HDR-SR12E

Both the SR12 and the CX7 (CX6 in Europe) are 1080i (no progressive mode on either).

The CX7 (CX6 in Europe) is an older model. It's good, but the SR12 is a newer generation, has improved processing. The CX6/CX7 records as 1440x1080 whilst the SR12 records as 1920x1080. (Not that this in itself makes much noticable difference).

You can compare the specs at http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProdu...ition+Handycam

Re: Sony HDR CX7E or Sony HDR-SR12E

I had to make a similar choice but the cutting edge technology of the Sony tipped the balance...

Re: Sony HDR CX7E or Sony HDR-SR12E

I have a Sony HDR-SR11E and I find the Slightly extra bulk due to the hdd not that troublesome. In fact find it makes the cam easier to hold steady due to the (IMO) better ergonomics - it fits nicely in my right hand with all buttons in easy reach.

To my mind, you can't over estimate the the usefulness of a viewfinder.
Although this model has one of the best lcd screens around, it is all but useless in really bright sunlight. In fact it was the inclusion of a viewfinder which decided me to pick the Sony over other models.
