Unhappy Progressive loss of sound from camcorder footage captured by Pinnacle Studio 9

After I captured some video from a friend's Camcorder I discovered that the sound progressively broke up as I then viewed the captured video, eventually muting completely. The first scene is fine, then after a minute or two the sound stops. If I re-start it playing from near that frame the sound is heard again, but only briefly. A couple of minutes into the captured footage and it is impossible to get any sound at all. If I try to "make a movie" using any of the footage the sound problem halts the rendering process making it useless. I put it down to a problem with my friend's camcorder. Now it has happened for the first time with footage from my Sony HC42 Camcorder. Any clues what is going wrong?

Re: Progressive loss of sound from camcorder footage captured by Pinnacle Studio 9

Are your HDDs defragmented?
How do the DV AVIs play in VLC or wmp
Could PS9 have become curropt and need reinstalling?
The only way to find out is a trial and error one

If the captured files behave similary outside PS environment it could be that the files have been captured inccorctly due to PC HDD not being in top form
If they are fine in WMP ect.. the fault would be specific to Studio
You could capture with WMM or Win DV
for comparison

Re: Progressive loss of sound from camcorder footage captured by Pinnacle Studio 9

Thanks for your thoughts on this Senu. HDD is kept pretty health and defragged.

In VLC the sound eventually cuts out.

In WMP it plays pretty well for about the first 12 minutes then the sound cuts out and a message appears:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

Since posting the original question I have tried capturing onto my laptop which also has PS9 and all seems ok (though I had some initial problems getting it to "make movie" successfully.

So, it seems that the footage was captured poorly and, given that this has happened in the past (though only from another camcorder) I reckon I should try your reinstalling idea as I really need to use PS9 on the PC, not the laptop. That's my next step.

Thanks again
