Question Sony DCR-SR35 advice please

Hi,
I've just bought a DCR-SR35 and I'd really appreciate some help if anyone has one or has used one.

It keeps turning itself off during recording.
I've disabled the auto shut off, but today i did 2 recordings - once it ran for 50mins fine and the second time it stopped recording after 3 minutes - as far as I can see with the same settings both times.

Any advice or suggestions?

Many thanks
John

If its new I would seriously consider returning it.It sounds faulty and this intermittent behavior might become more prevalent
Auto shut off is not supposed to kick in during a recording. Only as a power saving ( if using batteries) during standby or pause.
Any camcorder should be able to stay on as long as you are playing or recording

I agree; it should only shut off during recording if the battery runs out. If the battery is fine and it is stopping randomly, then it is faulty.

Re: Sony DCR-SR35 advice please

Thanks for the replies,

I was hoping someone would point out something stupid I was doing.

I'll try a few tests tonight to see if I can replicate the problem and then either update with some info or take it back tomorrow...

Thanks
John

Question Re: Sony DCR-SR35 advice please

Hi again,

Update in the hope anyone can offers another suggestion...

At home the camera seemed to work fine, but then I took it out again and the same switching back to standby fault happened.

I took it back to the store and they swapped it for another new one.

Last night I tried it, only to have exactly the same fault.
It's unlikely that I've had two camera's with the same problem so I'm stumped.

We only swapped the camera itself, I kept the same battery. It seems to hold charge and run fine but could it be an issue?

Any other ideas?

Many thanks!!

John

It could, and using another battery or mains will probably give the clue away, unless it is the camcorder and your replacement is from the same dodgy batch as the original one
It is not an expected problem and it doesn't sound as if you are doing anything wrong yourself TBH

Re: Sony DCR-SR35 advice please

Hi,

It did occur to me that it's a bad batch but I'm going to try an eliminate the battery and try some main powered recordings.

Cheers
John
