Getting footage from a SONY HDR-SR7E on a DVD???

Now, surely this has to be about the most basic function of any camcorder? getting the stuff you've filmed onto a regular DVD that you can send to friends.

I have an LG External Super Multi DVD rewriter (as I can't write DVDs with my laptop) and this SONY HDR-SR7E camcorder but with both connected to my laptop I just CAN'T get the material I've recorded in standard definition onto a disc.

I get a message on my comp screen that reads "please wait for inserted disc to be recognised" which continues until I interupt it. The camcorder instructions for the 'Disc Burn' function are utterly useless as they only show the set-up with a VHS/DVD or hard drive recorder, none of which I have. I even tried connecting my camcorder direcly to my DVD rewriter, but of course that didn't work either...

Could someone with a SONY HDR-SR7E please tell me how they burn DVDs please??

Thanks in advance

Jeremy

Re: Getting footage from a SONY HDR-SR7E on a DVD???

The Burn Disc function from Sony Camcorders works only on Sony Vaio laptops and desktops AFAIK
I also have the same sort of LG USB External Burner and it is really just a standard burner (well mine also has analogue video inputs)

What you need is to actually download your cllps to your laptop from the camcorder, and use appropriate software to author and burn a DVD video

Appropriate software could be Ulead MF6plus, Nerovision 5 (part of Nero 8)
or any Software which accepts AVCHD files as input, and is capable of turning out DVD videos (

What you are aiming to do is to convert the AVCHD files to SD Mpeg2 and simultaneously turn these into standard SD DVD video
It is do able but not by Using the camcorders burn DVD function and the LG burner just like that
As for the message about recognising a disc.. Which sort are you using?. My LG reads all from DVD-RAM to CD-R

Re: Getting footage from a SONY HDR-SR7E on a DVD???

Senu to the rescue again! (Thanks, you helped me out last time )

I'll look into some of that software as soon as I can. I had no idea about the compatability issue regarding the Sony disc burn function, there's no mention of that at all in the camera's manual or pdf handbook, hmmm..

As to discs, my rewriter is supposed to be able to handle all types so I've been trying with DVD -and + RW ones.

Thanks again.

Jeremy
