Sony DVD 92E Recording disabled!!

I,ve got a Sony DVD 92E and every time my wife uses it she can record something switch it off and when she comes to use it again it says recording disabled...
Its hardly been used since we bought it a couple of years ago.
Also disc's are genuine sony
Are we doing something wrong with it thats causing it to happen or is it faulty?

Many thanks Jason
