Thanks: Gave 26, Got 26 | LCD screens on the HF10 and Sony SR11/12?
Just wondering how these compare in the real world. i know the Sony is bigger and higher pixels, but is it viewable in direct sun? Apparently the Canon in very good in the sun. I am a bit of a sucker for a big clear screen LOL

I've got the SR12. On a recent holiday I found it difficult to see the LCD screen in really bright conditions. I used the built-in viewfinder which worked fine.

But none of this is going to help you because all LCDs to a greater or lesser extent have this problem in sunlight.
The only other option is to go for a cam with viewfinder but these tend to be much larger than the (quite a few now) cams you have been considering.
It's the Catch-22 of camcorders: too small and it has no viewfinder, too large and you'll never be prepared to carry it about with you.
I call it the "bog-roll conundrum": imagine you have just 25p in the world. You can buy a tin of beans or a toilet roll. If you don't buy the beans you don't need the toilet roll, but if you buy the toilet roll you don't need it. Buy the beans and..... well find some dock leaves.

Must admit that the TG3 was pretty darn good, direct sunlight in France last weekend AND I was wearing sun-glasses a combination I have never done before....And on some camera's my RayBan polarising lenses would just make it totally unreadable....

The SD7 LCD isn't much cop in sunlight. Not Algarve sunlight anyway. Sony (say CCI) LCDs are reckoned to be the best.

I haven't. Hence the continual "will he, won't he" battle between my wallet and my "buy it now" finger for another HV10: the only HD cam small enough to fit into my pocket whilst retaining some (although vestigial) viewfinder function.

It is both a size thing and also a cost thing I believe. With something like the TG3, clearly it's mainly to do with size. And while I prefer a viewfinder, I can understand and accept a tradeoff for size.
With other models it seems more about cost. E.g. the SR10 and SR11 are similar in size; the cheaper SR10 doesn't havea viewfinder; I'm sure that is mainly to keep the cost down.
