best quality on tiny budget (cake & eat it)

I know this question has been asked many times. after reading various threads and going to look at some camcorders in the flesh i still can't decide.

i can spend up to £200 (maybe £250 at a push) and want a camcorder due to my wife giving birth in approx 2 weeks. so i want to record some baby stuff for posterity and here are some i am considering:

canon md205 - seems to be forum pinup for 1st/budget camcorder. slightly concerned about motor noise
sanyo xacti cg65 - great for small size but what is pic quality like?
panasonic sdr-s7 - again small size & quality manuf.
canon md150 - seems vfm at £100

any thing else i should consider? any advice on picture quality / ease of use? which offers best quality per pound?

I have an imac and panasonic dvd recorder for archiving.

cheers for any help,
shiresy.

Someone's making camcorders from flesh now? Creepy!

For that money, I'm backing the Canon 205. In terms of picture quality it's going to surpass the others on your last. I can't think of anything you've overlooked that's going to give better results.

Being a miniDV camcorder you'll need a firewire port (and a cable which you'll have to purchase separately), but I'm sure your iMac already has firewire since Apple hasn't got around to stripping it out of the iMacs just yet . . .

Andrew.

P.S. Love the spam. You put "eat" in your title and this is the result!
