Thanks: Gave 0, Got 0 | m2ts files editing problems
Hi all,
I have just acquired a Panasonic SD5 Hi Def camcorder. I am using a Windows Vista Dell Dimension E520 computer to do all my editing. I can not see the m2ts files using Vegas Movie Studio Platium 6 or Unlead VS 11. When I use the bundled HDWriter software it is supposed to change the files into Mpg for editing(in standard format) but what is so called converted can not be read by the above software. When I used the trial verson of Pinnacle Studio 11 Plus i could edit the video but there are many freezed changes of scenes. I have to manually trim the end of the leading scene then the freezing go away.
I ahve updated the Vegas but problems remain.
Any idea or advise ?
Thanks

Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 6 doesn't support AVCHD. Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 8 does.
For Ulead VS; I think you may need 11.5, but not sure about that...

Editing support for AVCHD is about 18 months old.. even then as it is not a "uniform codec" as such you may need the very latest upgrades of all the titles
Capable as it is, SvMS6 is a little long in the tooth for AVCHD
As such the above advice is spot on . Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 8 , Ulead VS 11.5 and Pinnacle Studio 11 ( with a Panasonic specific patch) should get you there
Nero vision 5 ( Part of Nero 8 ) is similarly capable
Did you see THIS?

Thanks for the replies. I have also bought a Canon HF10 and editing with files from it have the same problem of freezed frames between clips when they are put on the time line. I am using Pinnacle Plus 11. The result on either Blueray, or AVCHD discs is that there is a jittering between clips. The only way I can avoid them is by trimming the end of each clips by about 5 frames.
Is there any easier way ? or is it Pinnacle ?

I think this could be a bug with the AVCHD format and the way the clips are recorded, I have also noticed this on footage taken with my TG3, I have now got into the habbit of trimming the end of the clips (couple of seconds) when editing.
Even when playing the clips through a PS3 with continueous playback there is a slight delay between clips.

Very few software can read .MTS files, that is why Panasonic include the software to extract to .M2TS files
I use Nero version 9, but version 8 also works OK
The included Nero Vision handles .M2TS file pretty well for a basic package

The included Nero Vision handles .M2TS file pretty well for a basic package | Vegas 9, Pinnacle Studio Ultimate, VS11.5 and PD Ultra will all import the raw mts files.

Thanks for all the info about the software that can do the job. I have got the trial versions of some of those and the result is still a mixed one. Vegas 9 still has the freezed frames and the video was jittering all over the place. Various patches on Pinnacle 11 got no better results. Corel X2 seems to be the most stable one as far as ending frames are concerned but preview is lagging so it is very hard to have a feel of how things are going during editing.
In short it is extremely difficult to make a project using m2ts clips into AVCHD or DVD movies with smooth continuous running.

True
However it is also a reflection of how resource hungry AVCHD files are
Even with a quad core PC with 3 Gb RAM , if not set up to run effciently it will still not be " smooth" but more power = better performance
The best way round is to make small clips and see how they look. Preview will never be as good a representationof the end product and sadly trial versions sometime withoud that last bit of quality to prevent folk from not gettong the full product
Certainly they will not have all the patches . updates ect
