Canon HV30/Ulead 11.5 plus HDV capture

Just bought Canon HV30 and I have Ulead 11.5 Plus which I use for my mini dv capture(sony HC40). But I failed everytime to capture HDV 1080i footage form my HV30. When I try to capture I get the 'Unable to Switch to Capture Mode, check if your video capture driver is working properly. 15023:4:2' message.

From the capture screen I can opperate the play rewind and fforward opperations on the camera from my PC through the software, but not capture and preview. I looked at trying a different capture driver but there is only one listed (IVI ?) so there just isn't an alternative as described in previous versions.

My PC is Dell 710 XPS with Graphic card 8800gtx 768mb, which I think it is good enough for HDV editing.

Any one who use the same devices? please help!!

Re: Canon HV30/Ulead 11.5 plus HDV capture

Certainly no issue with your PC spec; even a very basic PC can capture HDV; it is no more demanding to capture than DV.

I can't explain why it is failing, but you could try a second opinion and try and capture with HDV split.

I use this (rather than the capture in Sony Vegas, my editor), as I like it better.

Re: Canon HV30/Ulead 11.5 plus HDV capture

I use ulead vs 11.5 plus with my sony hdv camcorder and I capture hdv fine over firewire. have you set your camera to output hdv instead of dv? I have to set that before I begin capture.

also have you dowloaded ulead hd power pack? I use vs to burn my hdv content as hd-dvd on dvd5 disks, result is brilliant.

Re: Canon HV30/Ulead 11.5 plus HDV capture

Hi

Thanks very much for your helps.

I spent last night to update my pc and re-set up the programmes. But the problem is still there. Ulead just does not start the capture module. I am very frustrated and have no ideas about what is wrong. A brief Google on web, I found some people got the same problems like me. Ulead support is very poor and no reply for the emails I sent the them.

Mark, thank you very much for your link. Yes, HDV split is very good. I have captured all my test clips and inport into Ulead. but have not tried the editing.
By the way, what is your version of Vegas? is it better by comparing Ulead?

Best regards

Jinjin

Re: Canon HV30/Ulead 11.5 plus HDV capture

I use Vegas 7 (Pro). But for starting out, I would recommend the Vegas Movie Studio Platinum version (currently Version 8), as it has about 80% of the features for 20% of the price of the Pro version (and is enough for most people). You can always upgrade later.

I would't like to comment on which is better; Vegas or Ulead VS. Both have strengths/weaknesses, both have their supporters. You could download a trial of Vegas and see how it compares for you.

Re: Canon HV30/Ulead 11.5 plus HDV capture

And as I said; whilst I love Vegas for editing, I'm not that fond of it for capturing. It works, but I find HDV split easier/better. HDV split for example can include the date/time in the filename of each clip.
